France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Probably the white wine of the night for me, amazing balance, purity and detail. Lemon, hints of honey, white flowers, slight nuttiness, stone, minerals, all in a wrapper of perfect acidity. I often gripe that whites are sometimes too fat/sweet or too sour and acidic, this one was a true gem, maybe the best white wine i have tasted so far in my young wine drinking career. Bravo.
good precision, not to fat but has some weight to it considering it is the least expensive white in the tasting. graphite, slate, lemon peel, slight almond skin, and light honey. acidity was high but within good tolerance. really good at $29.75
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Definitely a 2007, brighter acidity, stone and minerals for miles. more tightly wound up, with hints of flowers, lemon zest, lime, saline, and a slight hint of pomelo. Mouth puckering acidity on the back end but never goes too sour, excellent but needs time.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Much more round that the 2007 Pucelles, the Clavoillon is more approachable with friendlier acidity, with a more sweeter palate (although still dry) this wine is drinking better now that the 2007 Pucelles. Slight marzipan, blood orange, lemon and citrus notes with good acidity. Doesn't have the laser cut acidity of the Pucelles but has a more voluptuous mouth feel.
Light yellow, dried leaves, lemon zest, pebbles, tart acidity, slight medicinal quality, slightly short finish. balance was not as good and it was not as harmonious as the previous whites. ok wine but not for the price.
Light, some astringency, a bit tannic and yet semi-open for business. i get some fresh cut wood, strawberry, tart cherry and hints of violets. a good wine but under performs a bit for the price.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
slightly tight, with some swirling it gave notes of sour cherry, cranberry, wood sap and mint. tannins were a bit big with a more burly finish at the end. a bigger wine but not surprising for a gevrey.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
more open, prettier nose and palate than the combottes. elegant yet carries weight. acidity is not too high but still carries a good amount. nuances of leather, spice and forest floor come up with air. red fruits dominate with good tart/sweetness balnce.
nice nose of violets, spring flowers and bright red fruit, palate is light yet has some structure, balance is very good, not oaky, red strawberry, hints of watermelon peel, cranberry. very feminine wine, like a graceful ballerina on your palate. finish is good while mouthfeel is excellent. amazing QPR, at $19.13, this beats many CA pinots price b/w $20~$40.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
definitely more weight and grip that the bourgogne, you can see the difference in terrior, this has a more masculine mouthfeel, very very tight. nose was a bit muted but had some secondary elements like asian spice and crushed rock. palate was a bit tannic, red fruits, stone, more oak, raspberry and some nuances of mint.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Again, terrior differences are so evident with this wine, more barnyard funk, more spiciness and more feminine the the nuits, precision of this wine was more focused, acidity has a finer cut, black cherry, fig, flowery perfume, all made with great structure and balance, a great wine. probablt tied for red WOTN with the Dujac Charmes.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
not as interesting as the earlier whites, flavors more muted, with a strange bitter note on teh finish. very light color, acidity was a bit to tart, lemon, citrus, banana peel, with notes of some kind of medicinal taste.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
the better of the 2 Arlot reds, better balance, mouthfeel and finish. this was even more feminine than the clos l'arlot, a bit surprising for a nuits, gorgeous nose of flowers, spice and red fruit, palate was well integrated all teh way to teh finish.
