A mix of Mugneret-Gibourgs

A wine-pages offline organised by Richard Shama. I've always liked the wines of Mugneret Gibourg without being a real devotee but this evening went a long way to winning me over. The Ruchottes 02 was the star, but I was very taken with all the younger wines (apart from the faulty 01) and their winning combination of pretty cherry fruit and stony substance.

  Sweaty nose, but on the palate fresh and tangy and moreish in the Bereche way. Lovely, substantial, mouthfilling champagne

  A bit soapy on the nose, but once past that lots of pretty, sweet cherry fruit, a streak on menthol, quite delightful

  Fuller, and with deeper fruit than the 1er crus, this was just stunning, richly red fruited, but with a touch of game and earth, this was utterly beautiful, spectacularly so

  If this had been, say, an 86, I think we'd have been pointing out that it had retained its freshness and that there was a core of savoury fruit. As it is, it was way too advanced and something was amiss. Perfectly palatable though.
