Introduction

The Swedish importer of Savart, Caviste, offered a tasting of the three wine currently being launched (2012 disgorgements, and a 2008 vintage), compared to the three corresponding wines sold the year before (2012 disgorgements with more 2008 base in the non-vintage wines, and a 2006 vintage).

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • NV Savart Champagne Premier Cru L'Accomplie Extra Brut Vieilles Vignes 88 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Bread, apple (partly winter apples), good concentration of fruit on the palate, high acidity, spice. Rather young, 88 p.
Although Pinot Noir comes through with apple and spice notes, I'd rather have guessed that this was a 50/50 blend with Chardonnay due to its acidity and balance.
    Disgorged September 2012, base vintage 2009 (50%, supplemented by 25% 2008 and 25% 2007).

  • NV Savart Champagne Premier Cru L'Accomplie Extra Brut Vieilles Vignes 89 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Bread, some honey, apple, good fruitiness, high acidity, citrus, mineral. Young, 89+ p.
The Pinot Noir note (it's 80%) is less obvious in this wine than in the one year younger release of the same wine. I would have believed that this was a blanc de blancs. Less pronounced fruity notes and less apple, but more minerality and higher acidity. Although one year older, it comes across as younger on the palate.
    Disgorged 2011, base vintage 2008 (50%, supplemented by 25% 2007 and 25% 2006).

  • 2008 Savart Champagne Extra Brut L'Année 91 Points

    France, Champagne

Rather noticeable oak, flowers, yellow apple, peach, quite concentrated on the palate, spice, almost some tannic feeling, high acidity. Quite young at present, 91+ p.
I'd definitely recommend cellaring this for a couple of years, so the oak barrel notes gets better oak integrated into the other aromas. Only time will tell if 100% oak was a bit too much even for this top vintage. More obvious oak notes at present than in the 2006 (which received 30% oak).

  • 2006 Savart Champagne Extra Brut L'Année 91 Points

    France, Champagne

Toffee/fudge notes, bread, some honey, baked apples, powerful nose. Palate with strong mineral notes, apple including winter apples, high acidity, spice. Rather young, 91+ p.
Compared to the 2008 (100% oak), the oak barrels notes in the 2006 (30% oak) are not at all as obvious, although the oak has likely contributed to the toffee and fudge notes. Quite different in its aromas compared to the 2008.
This wine should definitely gain from further cellaring, but it wouldn't be too much of a sin to drink it in the near future.
