Some sulfur and hazelnut. Medium weight but good texture. Wood pretty much dominates from start to finish. Good acidity. Really very little interest in the mouth beyond wood toast.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Ripe fruit, lees on the nose. Medium weight but rich, broad and a little creamy. Citric, adequate acidity, fair amount of wood present, good length. Very good but hardly distinguished.
Medium deep red. Floral, red fruited aromatics. Delicate red fruit, anise and chocolate. Lively acidity, some tannin to resolve. Very elegant, nice fruit offset by a dash of herbs.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Dark color. Heavy char on the nose with black fruit. Chunky, almost heavy feel. Cocoa powder and black fruit-very primary and simple now. Chewy tannins. This seems both overextracted and overoaked.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
The lightest wine of the bunch. Game and soil aromatics. Light weight, some distant faded red fruit. Not completely clean and hardly appealing in terms of its current mouth feel. This does have develop nicer fragrance and is the earthy, subtle side of Nuits. What a difference compared to the modern, made up style of the Arlot.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Ruby. Brambly and a bit musty. Medium weight. Candied red fruit admixed with earth in a very attractive fashion. Nice bright acidity cuts through the ripe fruit without shortening the finish. I like the balance and the cut of this wine, which strikes me as typical Gevrey.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Medium ruby. Dark fruit and green herbs comprise the nose. Medium to full bodied, concentrated and mouth coating. Fruit is ripe but mute at this point and there is a whiff of green herbs. Not a lot of complexity or vivacity in the mouth, but this could conceivably improve over time. Grand Cru in size only at this juncture.
2011 Domaine Nathalie et Gilles Fevre Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Briny nose. Medium weight. Bright bitter oranage, a touch of wood, good acidity and nice saline finish with youthful bitterness.
