2012 is a smaller but disarmingly delicious vintage. Whites can be a bit overly fleshy but still retain wild acidity in many cases. Reds are the stars here, though. As expected, not a classic Chablis vintage adorned in Kimmeridgian seashells across the board (but that happens once in a blue moon....2002, 2008, 2010 most recent to my mind).
2012 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis
France, Burgundy, Chablis
Tasting pour. Peanut mineral nose. Good acid, not bad.

2012 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Tasting pour. Big mineral Chablis behind a reductive nose--very good! One of the successes here.

2012 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon Cuvée Guy Moreau
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

2012 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Valmur
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasting pour. Big time applesauce Chard aromas, a massive wow. Pretty good acid. More Bâtard Montrachet than Chablis to my palate. Fat and impressive.

2012 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasting pour. Almost steely lean nose reminiscent of a young, taut Riesling?! Quite obviously shut down. Pretty good at this point, who knows where it'll end up. Possible it was a freshly opened new bottle.

2012 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos Clos des Hospices dans Les Clos
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasting pour. Very impressive. Less than 2% new oak. Very nice. More attractive than the Les Clos today.

2012 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin

2012 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting pour. Tiny bit of reductive vinyl, otherwise open for business! Darker, leaner than GC. Prefer the GC at this early point, however this will of course surpass.

2012 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Tasting pour. Great again, still taut but great sappy extraction one expects of 2012. Lovely pinot sap, white peach and unripe plum and spice aromas. Unggghh. Will blossom many years from now.

2012 Domaine Jacques Prieur Meursault Clos de Mazeray
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting pour. Broad, fat 2012 white. Old butter a bit, smudgy experience, good acid, good texture. I don't typically care for "fat" Meursault.

2012 Domaine Jacques Prieur Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Blanc
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Tasting pour. Gravel and sand at the bottom of Grèves for these vines. Yum! Apple aromas, nondescript a bit but yummy nonetheless.

2012 Domaine Jacques Prieur Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

2012 Olivier Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasting pour. Winner in the O. Leflaive lineup. Oak, some reduction, but wild searing acid, just screaming acid. Most 2012 Puligny tasted was very, very impressive. Did he acidify to counter the roundness of the vintage?! Almost unnatural acidities across the lineup.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

2012 Domaine Génot-Boulanger Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru
Tasting pour. Oh so screaming young. Sturdy, acidic, almost formic (oak yet to digest?) Unsurprising that a red Corton or Aloxe Corton should be insisting on time.

2012 Domaine Francois Lamarche Bourgogne
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting pour. Holy cats that's a lot of sulphur. It stayed with me for the rest of the day (believe it was not only the Grande Rue). Yields a red with corn and asparagus aromas. Stemmy? Lean and mean and nice, but: ouch. Orphic journey to the sulphurous depths.

2012 Domaine Francois Lamarche Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

2012 Domaine Humbert Frères Charmes-Chambertin

2012 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Tasting pour. Dear Lord I love Cathiard's wines. These are unsurprisingly better than the 2011s. His wines have a regal, cool fruit character that reminds me of Roumier, but these are of course heavier wines of no less pedigree to my mind. Big wow here. Sylvain would consider this wine perfect in 5-6 years, even if it can last longer. His palate resembles mine in that he prefers drinking on the fruit/fresher side.

2012 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting pour. Slight reduction here too. Obvious long term winner of the lineup. So very impressed with these wines, and Sylvain (edit: Sebastian!) is still so young.

2012 Jean-Luc & Eric Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting pour. Only wine of lineup not suffering from heavy reduction. Candied character perhaps a bit of surmaturité? Still think that with time this will be very nice.

2012 Jean-Luc & Eric Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting pour. Massive reduction--Alain had it in a decanter and was said tasters couldn't taste through the reduction. The fruit here (and in most of his wines) is astoundingly bright and pronounced. I bet that with time that this will be phenomenal.

2012 Jean-Luc & Eric Burguet Chambolle-Musigny Les Echezeaux
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Tasting pour. Reduction here too. Light, lovely fruit. Second winner of the lineup for me behind the super reductive Champeaux.

2012 Jean-Luc & Eric Burguet Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Tasting pour. Nose is rusty/musty, old world a bit. Palate is tight. Fruit is less pronounced than other reds tasted. Nice though, in this brief tasting.

2012 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Tasting pour. Holy mother of God this was the wine of the whole tasting. Effing gorgeous mineral nose almost reminiscent of Styrofoam, spice out the wazoo, stems adding complexity, take me now Lord. Wooow. Need a cry and a nap after this. Debated about trying to purchase a bottle.
