Chassagne-Montrachet
Tasted Monday, May 19, 2014 by Burgundy Al with 451 views
Tasting with Caroline Lestimé in the Gagnard cellar. Most of the 2012s were bottled just a few months earlier, and haven't seemed to fully regained what I expect will be their full charm.
2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Sous Eguisons Blanc
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune
Tasting at domaine. Lemon aromas and flavors, good brightness, lots of energy. Good now, good for its level.

2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Tasting at domaine. This part of Chaumes is Villages level, adjacent to the 1er vineyards. Floral start with lots of apple and pear. Good mineral intensity, shows its geographic pedigree, i.e., proximity to the 1er Cru vineyards. Very good for Chassagne Villages. This was bottled in December, so had a little more time to recover (vs the 1ers which were bottled in January or February).

2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at domaine. Not to be confused with the Villages Chaumes just tasted. This had been bottled earlier this year, and seemed a little subdued. Minerality and textural elements very clear, but apple and pear flavors and flavors seem very restrained right now.

2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Maltroie
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at domaine. Also bottled just a few months ago, but this was more forward and interesting vs the Chaumees 1er just tasted. More pleasurable fruit, but also very well textured and mineral driven. I expect this will resolve into a very good and more interesting wine medium and long term.

2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at domaine. Fatter and more rounded vs Clos de la Maltroye just tasted. Lemon character with some orchard fruit. Actually from Chaumes, adjacent to Boudriotte proper.

2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Petits Clos
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at domaine. From a section than can be included in Morgeot but has unique character. Most floral of the wines today with a precise, linear character. Lots of apple and lemon. Average 25 yo vines.

2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at domaine. Also recently bottled, there wasn't a lot forthcoming this morning, so very tough to assess. From Boirettes, which is directly downslope from Morgeot proper.

2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at domaine. Also showing showing lots of forward fruit today, but this has good power, a robust intensity and lots of energy and minerality. From both Caillerets and nearby Combards.

2009 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Maltroie 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasted at domaine. Starts fat and lush with lots of ripe apple, even some baked apple character, which I find somewhat common in 2009s, but there is plenty of sneaky acidity and good minerality also emerging from middle to finish.

2009 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at domaine. Very harmonious aromas and flavors, this was surprisingly less fruit-driven vs Maltroye. Intense throughout with good concentration, nice floral and spice notes everywhere. A very good 2009.

2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet L'Estimee

2012 Jean Noel Gagnard Santenay 1er Cru Clos de Tavannes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru
Charming red cherry aromas with spice hints. Meaty and dense red and black cherry flavors with firm, rugged structure, just slightly drying finish for right now.
