Introduction

HKMA wine dinner organised by Edmond and Watsons as the wine supplier. Previous dinners were all focused in French etc. so they decided to do a Australian themed dinner.

Flight 1 - Pre dinner (1 Note)

Night started with the Riesling pre dinner. Watsons gave a brief intro to the wines of the night.

Flight 2 - Dinner (6 Notes)

  • 2011 Yarra Yering Chardonnay 87 Points

Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

Not much nose here. Lemon grapefruit and yogurt. Vanilla. Low acid Yakult taste for those who had Yakult before. Don't think the shrimp balls did it any justice though. Totally overpowered the wine.

  • 2008 Yarra Yering Dry Red N°1 87 Points

Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

Red fruit on the nose. Simple plate of red fruit. Low tannin. The body was a little too thin for me. Lacks the complexity of Classic Bordeaux. Opened up a bit after 30 mins in the glass with some floral bouquet.

Nose lots pepper. Dark fruit. Mushroom
Much more power than no 1 2008. Dark fruit with oak and pepper on palate. Well balanced acids. Long finish. Better than the 2008 no 1

  • 2010 Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 90 Points

Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District

Out of all the wines tonight, there is no doubt that this has the best nose. The floral bouquet hits you in the nose so strong that you could not have missed it.

Lots of red fruit on the palate with pepper and spices. The body is a little thin though.

Very good wine but I thought I liked the No 2 better tonight.
