Lovely structure and balance. A great wine, at its peak but in no danger of falling over. Equal WOTN with the 1996.

Seemed quite a bit younger than the 1990. Very good structure and mouthfeel with good fruit richness. Will develop positively for a fair few more years.

Caramel and compost aromas. Surely an off bottle.

Sweet, ripe fruit. Lacking the structure of the better vintages tasted alongside it.

Big stature wine with some cabernet-styled earth, lead and pencil shaving characters about it. Drinking well now.

Powerful, but with wonderful balance and structure. Will be brilliant with another 4-5 years in bottle. Equal WOTN with the 1990.

Over-ripe and porty - lacks balance and I can't see it developing into anything better.

Earth, leather and spice. As a component toward the overall product it becomes greater than the sum of its parts but as an individual wine, slightly simple and lacking intensity.

Interesting side by side with the '98 stocktake release. This is very good, although I wonder if it has the structure to age and develop further - might be at its best soon.

Winemaker's Stock Release - Some mystery surrounding the origins of these bottles. Rockford are difficult to get information from.
This bottle next to the regular 1998 was showing some extra vanilla/coconut oak but was overall quite similar.

Well balanced, with some elegance and style to it. Has all the signs that this will age very well.

Did not really enjoy this - green, minty, herbal and short. Lacks structure and balance. Worst wine of the vertical excluding the flawed 1993.

Some heat and a bit short - lacks the structure and balance for me to see this developing into anything excellent.

Very good but very youthful and brooding at this stage, would like to see it in a couple of years time.
