Green apple, lime pith; sugar on the attack, but quickly fades to the very high acids. Finish is medium-long and quite sour, of green apple. Some floral and mineral notes, but mostly this is about green fruit. Very nice value.

Obviously very young and quite effervescent. Incredibly light, with very little sweetness. Lime, red apple, and a bit of apricot. I am surprised by the little (perceived) sugar and the incredible lightness - more like a (modern) Kabinett. I enjoyed this, though the group consensus was decidedly negative, finding it too sour and not integrated, with the sugar and acid seeming to fight rather than play well together. This changed somewhat after several hours of air.

Just a tremendous wine, with rich, ripe fruit (pear, citrus), minerality, floral notes, but on a seemingly weightless medium body. Very precise fruit and acid. Medium-long finish of red apple with a lingering hint of sweetness. Group also loved this, and debated the (at this stage, very minute) differences between this and the Juffer-Sonnenuhr. The Sonnenuhr may be a bit more ripe and rich. Both are excellent.

Opened way too cold; gave little but acid and lemon curd. With air and warmth, red apples with great acid and a long finish. Yummy! A group favorite. Very similar at this stage to the Helden, but perhaps a bit more ripe fruit.

Easily the group's favorite, and for good reason. A veritable fruit salad, with apples, tangerines, pineapple, and a host of others, but also with floral and mineral elements. This is both a wine that you could just enjoy (and enjoy A LOT) or a wine that (if feeling particularly without joy) could analyze for hours, or days. Fantastic. Give this air. As for time, whatever... drink one today, another next week, repeat for years and years.

Loads of stone fruit, bit of petrol, and a sad cloud hanging over the wine, muting the fruit. This struck the group as somewhat flat and lifeless, and indeed (despite the group's preference for younger riesling) it may be a bad bottle as it is less expressive than my previous bottle. Perhaps an unfortunate phase. Hold.

Not at all enjoyed by the group, most finding it unintegrated and overly sweet. Indeed, it is a perfectly serviceable juicy quaff, but what I'd expect of a backyard wine half of its price.

Fairly consistent with previous note. Underripe stone fruit (like hard peaches), lemon custard, and blades of steel. Lots of acidity. Long finish of stone fruit followed by salty minerality. Very very young. Some varied opinions from the group, with J not at all impressed and C loving it.

Molasses, mead, and loads of spice. Very rich, but with a lot of acid. Yum.

This is not a wine; it is an abomination. The group decided unanimously that I must be an evil sadist for including it in the lineup. They are correct, but I now have confirmation that I am not alone in my despising/hating/loathing this "wine." Because I hate myself, I tried it over several days and once--once, and for only a second--found something that wasn't vile.

Tasted like underripe citrus that is just starting to rot. Not a group favorite. Missing the Soave zippy acidity. Simple, muted fruit. Meh.

Pronounced nose of citrus, lemongrass, and grass. Very refreshing, with good acidity. Grapefruit, lemon, lemongrass. Nice.

Very unique nose of grapefruit, cut grass, pee, and lychee. Carries through on the palate, with plenty of acidity, surprising lychee notes, and a bit of sweetness. Interesting flavor profile. Not bad.

Had some off-putting funk on open that blew off with some air. Fairly simple, primarily showcasing acid and some lemon citrus. Group's least favorite of the Sauvignon Blanc wines.

Lemon, white peach, lots of minerality, floral. Pretty wine, with less zip than the New Zealand ones we had alongside, but with more subtlety and complexity. Somewhat soft, rich mouthfeel. Medium finish of red apple and lemon.

2012 Weingut Spreitzer Winkeler Jesuitengarten Riesling Kabinett halbtrocken 89 Points

Mineral, herb, and citrus, with some stone fruit as it warms up. Slightly austere, begs for a drop more sugar. Absolutely needs food. Group was not enamored.

My (or the wine's) mood variation continues. An austere, chalky lime profile which flirts with juicy stone fruit but finishes quite quickly with mineral/salty. Just okay, and certainly not a group favorite.
