Very dry, with a funky, paraffin-like nose. Very light colour, showing some age. Not a favourite.

The wine shows some age in its appearance--browning. Tight and somewhat austere out of the bottle. With an hour or so, it opens up very nicely to show sweet fruit yet with strong acidity and structure, and lots of leathery complexity. Wait three to five years for the acidity to back off a bit.

Lovely, bright appearance. The fruit is starting to show; this wine needs more time for the acidity to recede a bit and the complexity to develop. The wine of this flight, unanimously. 94 points

I purchased this on release and have cellared it immaculately. It is an old-style Barolo, from a non-classic vintage that should drink early. The style of wine will not appeal to everyone; it certainly does appeal to me. The appearance is clean and bright; the wine is showing age, as the colour is a dark garnet. The note is redolent with tar, roses, undergrowth, truffles, bing cherries. On the palate, the wine is multi-dimensional and complex, with a very long finish, good fruit and balance. If you are looking for a bright, fruity style of Barolo, without the complexity and scents of age, this wine is not for you. One word of advice--don't decant the wine for long; the fruit is most vibrant shortly after opening. If you give it a lot of air, be sure to consume it with food. I will be drinking this within the next year.

Oh my goodness! Big fruit, lots of jammy tones, tons of texture and taste. Many thought this was from the New World. Incredible extraction. The sweetness of fruit makes it a pleasure to drink now, but the wine has the oomph to last a good many years and develop greater depth, layers and complexity.

This wine has a very Northern Rhone-like flavour profile (Cote Rotie), and incredible depth and structure. This needs time. The wine always gets strong points in these tastings owing to its fruit and complexity. Hold three to five years.

This was the wine of the flight, and probably the wine of the night. Incredible nose of black fruits and smoked meats. Big, rich on the palate. Beautifully balanced. Starting to drink now, but I would wait another 5 years for optimal drinkability. Absolutely delicious.

Delicious, supple, fruit forward. Drinking well now. Big, jammy wine, as one would expect. Very good. Drink now or hold.

Threw into a blind tasting as a surprise wine. This bottle had been opened the day before, but was so acidic and austere that I let it sit overnight. Well, the wait was worth it, and confirmed my suspicion that the wine has all the right elements; it just needs time. Showed the next day as sweet, good fruit, supple, balanced, aromatic. Give it 3 years.

Grenache blend. Rich, sweet/sour, balanced, complex. Apricots, caramel, stewed fruits, coffee, chocolate. Delicious.
