Blind tasting of Pinots in the corner penthouse overlooking downtown Dallas
Tasted Friday, January 5, 2007 by win with 1,017 views
OK, minimal notes this time--enjoyed the wine, food and company too much.
Served with an nicely prepared prime rib -- perfectly medium rare.
Tasted blind and one of my favorites of the night. Guessed the wine was at least 7 years old, which was apparent from the aroma. Nice red color with some interesting depth, and refined fruit on the finish. Fairly complex wine that I had to keep trying throughout the night.

Tasted blind and thought that the wine was very modern / new world in style. Very apparent from the aroma. Knew that the wines should all be pinots, but I was guessing that someone may have slipped a nw syrah in. This wine seemed awefully young, and will probably eventually gain the complexity that will make it more interesting in the future.

Tasted blind--very fruity aromas that inidicated more of a new world wine, likely California. But, it the fruit flavors where mixed with some funky characteristics, with a bit of earth mixed in, which I like, and thought added needed complexity. After the unveiling, discovered a cool label that could be read as the wine was consumed. Interesting winery: The 2004 Amour Fou is 100% Pinot Noir. A majority (53%) of the fruit comes from the inaugural harvest of the D. Giovanetti Vineyard, which is in Green Valley, a cool sub-appellation of the Russian River Valley. This vineyard is a monopole for Red Car. We expect great things from this site. In the future it may become our first vineyard designated pinot. The remainder (47%) of the fruit is from two clones (828 and 777) of the Sleeping Beauty Vineyard, which is owned and farmed by George Martinelli.

Tasted blind, but I immediately guessed California Pinot Noir. This wine had a pleasant aroma involving raspberries and a hint of pine, but the finish was very hot.

Tasted blind, but immediately guessed Burgundy. A bit of an amber tinge to the edge, but had mellow raspberry and plum aromas lending to the complex flavors involving some smoke, peat and more plum. One of my favorite wines of the night.

Tasted blind -- very interesting wine, that I guessed was more New World, California, specifically. I very much liked the wine, but was I wrong on the country....very modern in style, but it could just be very young. Should be interesting to see how this ages--I would guess that it gets much better and more complex.

Tasted blind -- guessed new world, California Pinot. Smooth, with raspberry overtones--my favorite California Pinot of the night.

Interesting wine, with a bit of a funky nose, and overtones of olive wood and cigar box. Could be somewhat closed right now--may have opened too early.

2004 Ramey Chardonnay Carneros 88 Points
USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
Nice vibrant color, with buttery characteristics intermingled with pear and apple. The oak was not overwhelming - very solid wine.

Always awesome wine. Usually better than the 98, and still the WOTN.
