Mature yellow fruits, chalk and superb acidity; a texture that just dances on the palate. Wonderful length. Only one bottle left of this, which I will store for another 10 years for academic purposes, but I am glad I drank it at what is probably its prime.

A testament to the quality of the vintage and winemaker. Still youthful and fresh, with maturity only serving to integrate the cornucopia of fruit, spice and slate flavors.

This was fabulous. Showing a flamboyant bouquet, palate-staining extract and a lengthy, contemplative finish. As Salil stated, more like an Auslese, but balanced by the fine structure.

My Riesling of the night. The racy, chalky, palate scraping saline minerality really struck a chord with me. Not as dense as some of the other Rieslings poured that night, but this sparkled like a diamond on the palate. Filigree, elegant and lacy. My kind of Riesling, where terroir really hits you hard.

Double decanted. Surprisingly accessible, yet by no means ready to drink. This displayed a lovely array of rose petal, cloves, and delicate red fruit fruit flavors, but seems to be holding a lot in the tank. Although easy to drink the structure is there, just so cashmere soft. This needs time to gain secondary notes.

Such a pity that Colares (especially mature ones) are so hard to find in the US. A truly under appreciated appellation. A glorious nose that combines the secondary notes of maturity with a fresh core of bright red fruits. The fine structure (seems more acidic than tannic) keeps this refreshing and light. So many flavors emerged throughout the night... dried cherries, stones, iron, leather, dried flowers, autumnal spices. An elegant and delicate wine, with a memorable and persistent flavor profile.

It has been about 16 years since I last tried this (which at the time, showed nicely). I certainly hope tonight's showing is not indicative of where this wine is now. While still drinkable, it did seem a bit hollow and shrill. Not rated.

Completely resolved and completely delicious. Loads of secondary scents and flavors, but still holding some fruit and (slight) grip to keep things interesting. Classic old Bordeaux notes of cedar, earth and leather. Smooth as velvet. Not sure how much to hold onto this, but it sure is tasty now. To it's credit, it evolved and improved through the night. Fascinating wine.

This has that rare oxymoronic trait of "clean funkiness". Forest floor and barnyard scents, but so fresh and clean... mixed with lovely herbs and bright red fruits. Complex, balanced and lively. Excellent example of Beaucastel.

Is this really declassified d'Yquem? Who knows... I was not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. Delicious, well balanced and displaying excellent acidity. It lacks complexity and depth, but this is still quite young and primary. This really needs time to develop. I have two more bottles which will be stashed away for educational puposes.

An excellent Sauternes, but perhaps not an excellent d'Yquem. Moderate complexity with good persistence, but a bit too loose-knit for d'Yquem. A bit more tension and depth is needed. A wonderful dessert wine, but expectations are high for this estate.

2009 Marie-Noëlle Ledru Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée du Goulté Blanc de Noirs Brut 90 Points

Citric and yeasty, with fine acidity and cut. Didn't quite produce the punch and depth from a sample back in September, but still delicious.
