  • 2006 Château Palmer

Youthful, creamy, extraordinarily pure expression of blackcurrant fruit, medium/full bodied, layered, very refined tannins, generous, expansive and long. Should be great ***(**).

  • 1996 Château Lynch-Bages

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Cedary, touch of farmyard quickly blowing off, mineral, underlying blackcurrant and plum fruit. Medium bodied, savouryrd and black fruits, actually quite elegant with soft tannins, good acidity and minerally notes coming through on the very good length, harmonious finish. Excellent and ready to go ****.

Anjou pigeon with cracked wheat, preserved lemon, dates, rainbow chard and fennel

  • 1996 Château Duhart-Milon

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Deep garnet, narrow pale garnet rim. Spicy, blackcurrant and blackberry nose. Medium bodied, quite fruit forward still, spicy again, touch of earth, slightly firm on the very good length finish. Drinking now but no hurry, excellent, ****.

  • 1990 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Deep garnet. Aristocratic nose - plum, blackcurrant, slightly floral - soaring from glass, gravelly edge. Medium/full, soft, mature, caressing, rich, complete, lightly savoury, pure fruited with a long, harmonious finish. Outstanding *****.

Flight 4 (4 Notes)

Pol Dorset lamb with coco beans, turnips and leek scapes

  • 1989 Château Léoville Las Cases

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Deep, dark, gravelly fruit, some rich earth and tobacco, firm but fine tannins, fresh acidity, long if still quite firm finish. Serious, minerally claret, excellent, drinking but with more to come ****1/2 +.

  • 1982 Château Léoville Las Cases

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Slightly more red toned than the 89, same mineral edge. Slightly softer and richer on the palate too, though certainly still with a perceptible backbone, touch of cedar and earth, very good length finish. Excellent ****1/2.

  • 1986 Château Beychevelle

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Slightly more ethereal than the two preceding wines, lighter, more feminine nose. Cedary red fruit, mature and soft with a hint of caramel. Very good but I would be drinking up. ***

  • 1986 Château Talbot

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Aromatic, savoury, red fruit, cedar, spice. Decent depth on the palate, spicy red fruit, fine, almost resolved tannin, very good length finish. Very good indeed ***1\2

Flight 5 (1 Note)

Apricot and elderflower soufflé with buttermilk ice cream

  • 1982 Château Rieussec

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Lovely, bright medium gold. Not overly giving on the nose, in fact an occasional whiff of mustiness, but no sign of this on the palate which shows lovely stone fruit and rich orange marmalade, cleansing acidity and the finish lingers impressively. Very enjoyable ****.
