A couple of months ago, Gkap/Fred tossed around the idea of drinking some Roulot Perrieres side by side. Seeing a chance to drink 3 roulot perrieres next to each other, we decided on a date. As the date got closer Curry graced us with his presence ;p and Ryan Caughey was in town for work so he joined us as well. Suffice to say I was HYPELEVEL10 as I've never had five Roulot Perrieres side by side and to me Roulot Perrieres is right there at the pinnacle of white burgundy as it gets.
If I was to rank the Perrieres I'd put it as 12/08/01/09 and not including the 02 since it was PREMOX. Really sad the 02 was premox'd as 02 when on has been one of my favorite white burg vintages. I've had the roulot charmes from 02 a couple of times and they've all been incredible.
Some of us got off work earlier than expected so we thought we'd take a tour of Fred's new house that's under construction. Fortunately the kitchen/living room area was completely built out, so we hung out for a few hours and tasted through some wines.
We picked Kasen in Fountain Valley for dinner. A well respected traditional sushi joint. We shared the sushi bar with another group of 6 rowdy fellow taiwanese. Not sure I'd go again as we really didn't have much food. Our bill was about $160 a person after tax/tip ($30/btl for corkage) and we ended up with 6 pieces of sushi and a small plate of sashimi. We sat down around 6pm and got out by 7:30pm. Definitely rushed.
Since we were still hungry, we ventured to the Taiwanese temple of Din Tai Fung. We stopped by Legends to pick up more wine and Gkap graciously opened the Rousseau Beze, Fred opened the dujac and Curry opened the Salon. Thanks for the pulls guys! Jwei was nearby so he also dropped by for a couple of glasses. We should probably have just done dinner at DTF. Very few things beat their pork chop fried rice and ultra fresh soup dumplings.
1995 Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
A good bottle, not the best bottle I've had from this 6 pack but it's holding at its peak. Just really soft, resolved on the palate. Plush fruit on the nose. Drink em up.

2004 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
France, Champagne
Drinking really well right now, one of the more consistent delicious 2004s. It's creamy but with energy and acidity and just loads of apple and lemon.

2009 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Big round wine, lots of depth and weight, but it could have used a bit more acid to pierce through that baby fat. It's not overly ripe, but there's the sensation of heaviness on the palate. It's still really good and drinks way above its village designation but I would have liked more acidity.

2008 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Mazy-Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru
The spice and meat on the nose is so explosive, it immediately jumped out of the glass on the pop and pour. The palate was is obviously young but is so soft and pure with bright acidity. It's a far livelier wine than I thought. It's gonna be a great one to age I think.
