France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Medium yellow. Some sulfur and funk on the nose. Rich pear and yellow fruit, full, lush feel with a kiss of oak, lowish acidity but fine, mineral finish. Good but loosely knit.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Medium yellow. White flowers. Elegant, silky feel. Pear, lemon, and a touch of herbs. Better underlying acidity than the Pillot. Just fantastic texture and length.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Light yellow. Riper, more citrus aromatics than the 2011. Fuller than that wine. Pear fruit, clay, vanilla, and a bit of spice. You feel the wood on the finish, and it shortens it. My least favorite of the 3 consecutive vintages of the PYCM Cailerets.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Light yellow. Ooh, nothing but reduction on the nose. On the other hand, beautiful weight and feel, bright orange fruit and great acidity. The liveliest of the bunch. If the sulfur dissipates, this has the material and balance to be a superb Premier Cru.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Light ruby. Earth and game. Light weight. More soil than fruit, but subtly sweet red fruit lurks underneath with crisp acidity. Not as tannic as the Duroché wines. Classy bottle with admirable weight and feel.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Dark ruby core. Some funk and smoke. Lush, chewy black fruit. Long and quite tannic, but this is not completely clean through the mid-palate. Quite a bruiser for a Vosne Grand Cru without a lot of finesse.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Light center with pale edge. Light weight. Some red fruit but really dominated by earthiness and a dry, tannic finish. This was tasted blind, and I guessed Gevrey Premier Cru. Disappointing once the label was revealed, as it neither had the lilting Chambolle fruit nor the charm of Amoureuses.
2011 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets
