DTC 90 - 100 Parker Points wines

Tasted Friday, December 9, 2016 by Zweder with 639 views

Introduction

The idea was to collect at least one bottle of each Parker score in the range from 90 – 100. We all had to bring two bottles. The host only wanted to know which scores we brought, not which wines. At arrival the wines got a cover. Before pouring the wines, the bottles got another cover over the first cover, so for everyone it was a completely blind tasting.

We tasted the wines one at a time.

The scores we gave differed quite much from the Parker scores…..

Flight 1 (17 Notes)

  • 2008 Edmond Barnaut Champagne Cuvée Edmond 91 Points

    France, Champagne

In the bouquet white fruits and some brioche. On the palate not bone dry but full bodied and fruity in a beautiful way.

  • 2005 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Clos du Bourg 90 Points

  • 2008 Château d'Aiguilhe 92 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux

In the bouquet cherries, dark berries and yoghurt. On the palate a firm dose of oak, dark berries and chocolate, espresso as well as sweetness. Also a lot of bitterness and very sticky tannin. In this stage the bouquet is the best part, but the wine is still much too young. Wait until 2022 at least. For now 91 – 92+

  • 2010 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Beautiful bouquet with garrigue, red and dark berries, metal, minerals, green herbs and earthy impressions. On the palate a lot of ripe red berries, beautiful acidity, some sweetness, bacon, licorice and laurel and slightly sticky, a bit drying tannin. This wine is in a dumb phase. Wait until 2023+ is probably a wise thing to do. For tonight 93/94

  • 2004 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 904 93 Points

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

Beautiful bouquet with creamy red berries, vanilla, some smoke and farmyard flavors. On the palate juicy dark berries, chocolate, beautiful oak and toast, beautiful acidity and tannin with a good future. Overall a beautiful wine with good freshness, perfectly dosed oak and very harmonious. So much better than the bottle I had in 2015. Beautiful and classical wine with still a good future until well into the 2020’s.

  • 2010 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

In the bouquet red berries and cherries, coffee, chocolate, sweet spices, sweet licorice and good oak. On the palate juicy dark berries, a lot of sweet impressions like cinnamon and currants, licorice, but also firm acidity and soft tannin. It is all there, but the wine is going all directions. Beautiful alright, but much too young. Wait until 2025. No score from me for today.

  • 2004 Fernando Remírez de Ganuza Rioja Reserva

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja

In the bouquet beautiful and ripe forest fruits and rustic flavors. On the palate metal, herbs, dark berries, licorice and chocolate. A concentrated wine with a lot of acidity and still firm tannin. Not a refined wine now….. When the bottle was revealed we were surprised and disappointed. This should be much better. An off bottle or still much too young. Probably the latter. Waiting until 2024 will be no problem. No score for tonight.

  • 2005 Clos Mogador Priorat 95 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

The bouquet needed some air time but was beautiful and luxurious after a few moments with dark berries and lush garrigue. On the palate a concentrated wine with dark and red berry fruits, herbs, pleasant sweetness, good acidity, soft and round tannin and a great length. Beautiful wine now and for years to come.

  • 2001 Château Rieussec 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

It has been some years since I tasted this wine… and I was always very enthusiastic, but this evening I did not have that WOW feeling. Definitely beautiful apricots, orange peel, botrytis and caramel. The same on the palate plus a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. It is probably me, but tonight I blind scored the wine 94.
