  • 1990 Château Clerc Milon

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Medium/deep garnet. Red fruited, ripe, sweet, medium bodied, lovely palate - harmonious, tannins fully resolved, touch of soil and spice, hedonistic but balanced, long, complete. Lovely ****1/2.

  • 1998 Château Clerc Milon

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Deep garnet. Nose is black fruited, gravelly minerals, touch of beefiness. Classic claret nose. Medium bodied, attractive minerally black fruit on initial entry, falls away a touch on a firmish finish. Very good though ***1/2.

  • 1996 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Lovely when first poured - cedary, minerally cool fruit. Fell away quite quickly in the glass though and ended up a touch non-descript. Odd and a bit difficult to rate.

  • 2000 Château Pontet-Canet

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Initially a little closed but does open up with 10 minutes or so in glass to show dark, smoky, almost charcoaly fruit. Medium/full bodied, charcoaly fruit again, touch of beef, reasonably accessible, deep and long but perhaps a touch one dimensional, at least at present. ***(*)

  • 2001 Château Pontet-Canet

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Nose shows red-toned fruit, vanilla - a touch confected at first, spice. Medium bodied on the palate, fresher, more savoury and red fruited than the 2000, some savoury notes emerging on the good length finish. Very drinkable ****
