Flight 1 - Friday nigth paella (1 Note)

The rose was just a perfect pairing with the paella.

Flight 2 - Pinot noirs on Saturday. Some with grilled salmon. Others with the BBQ pork or solo (5 Notes)

The BBQ pork from Stickley's was excellent, but really needed a zinfandel to pair, rather than the Babcock Pinot Noir. Therefore the Babcock was a little under-appreciated.

Alas, the Aberrant was corked. The Vivier Gap's Crown appears to have been the wine of the night - but the others were very good. I must have graded the Chronicle too hard, as it was also excellent - and quite unique.

  • 2012 Babcock Pinot Noir PSI Clone 91 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills

I thought this wine was quite tasty, with lovely fruit notes of cherry, strawberry, baking spices, anise and good, bright acidity. Unfortunately, it did NOT go with our pulled pork a la Stickey's, so our fri nds didn't like it as much.

Drink now - with pizza or on its own -- or perhaps age.

  • 2012 Dutton-Goldfield Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 91 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Tasty wine. Great fruit notes of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, spice and a touch of nutmeg. Good acidity. Very fresh and lively.
We had the wine on its own, without any food. Perhaps even better with a little bottle age?

I looked up the wine at the website. 10 months in French oak (40% new) and 5,762 cases made.

  • 2011 Vivier Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard 94 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

    (2/25/2017)

A tasty wine. Great red and dark fruit notes, cherry, violets, minerals and a touch of fig on the finish. The notes said to drink with lamb or meatloaf - neither of which we had - so we drank on its own. It was quite tasty.

This was Justyna's favorite of the wines so far.

    Drink now or hold.

A limited edition of 4 barrels (or 100 cases of wine - or 1,200 bottles) aged 18 months in French oak.

The winery retail is $55 I think. It might be worth the tariff, although we got it on sale.

  • 2007 Chronicle Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard 91 Points

USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley

    (2/25/2017)

A very tasty wine. Notes of red fruit, cherry, raspberry, earth, flowers and a little spice. We had this with oak grilled salmon with some herbs and a slightly sweet sauce - which unfortunately didn't pair as well as with the salmon solo or with the roast herbal chicken andpork sausage with fennel of the other night.

Really quite a nice wine. I was surprised to see this was a limited edition wine, 50% aged in new French oak, and with a $55 retail price. (I bought it without looking it up). We paid $15 plus tax (including shipping); great qpr at this price.

This was our last bottle. Great, aged pinot noir.

Too bad this winery failed. A lovely wine. Drink now.
