  • Medium ruby. Pronounced nose of lush red fruit, earth, truffles. On the palate medium acidity medium alcohol medium body. Well integrated tannins, raspberries and custard. Great showing, depth and freshness. Outstanding.

  • I believe we drank the other bottle of this some time ago. It was excellent.

  • Wines in Sea Bright with Pam and Justyna; 2/24/2017-2/25/2017 (Sea Bright, NJ): A tasty wine. Great red and dark fruit notes, cherry, violets, minerals and a touch of fig on the finish. The notes said to drink with lamb or meatloaf - neither of which we had - so we drank on its own. It was quite tasty.

This was Justyna's favorite of the wines so far.

    Drink now or hold.

A limited edition of 4 barrels (or 100 cases of wine - or 1,200 bottles) aged 18 months in French oak.

The winery retail is $55 I think. It might be worth the tariff, although we got it on sale.

  • Opened and poured. Has seen about an hour of air, plus some chill I put on it. Couple things stand out so let's begin there. Aromatically, has some whole cluster pinot noir notes. I don't know if the wine sees any but this is what comes through the bouquet, showing the peppery, herbal note that stems convey to me. I like this aspect in pinot, and here too. What about wood? I suspect there is more here than I would normally enjoy, as it seasons the wine with a creaminess, all in the core of the wine. It also adds a level of what I would call 'sweetness', and what I mean is that the wine comes off a little denser as a result. The oak also adds a good amount of baking/brown spice, that seasoning that comes with new wood, which is a flavor I don't enjoy in pinot. In all, it takes the wine out of some of the balance that it might otherwise show. The fruit? Lots of bright, bing cherry, plum and herb, some of which I suspect is from the stem inclusion, adding a savory note to the finish. Love savory so this works for me. Smooth and flavorful. Don't mistake me for saying this is a big-framed, dark fruited CA pinot--it's really not. To have a full picture, will retaste tomorrow and close this note....so a day later, with an equal chill, the wine is pretty similar. The zing in the core, along with a real good depth of red fruit is very nice, yet the brown spice tones on this (although my son-in-law who had the wine with me didn't seem to mind) are a bit high for me at this stage.

  • Really not a bad pinot offering from Gap's Crown - this wine isn't quite as high octane as the Sojourn Gap's, but it really has a lot of character. The wine was decanted for about an hour. Ruby red color in the glass with a slightly murky appearance. The wine had a nice odor of fig, bing cherry, and cinnamon spice. The palate showed a vibrant younger wine that had a lot of youth yet was showing integration with alcoholic bing cherry and some darker cinnamon and allspice that was very apparent in the middle and mixed nicely with the fruit bouquet. The finish was rather quick, showed a little alcohol. Not very tannic, very vibrant finish. Nice wine, but glad I have two more Sojourn Gap pinots as this one really has the advantage over this offering from Vivier. I would drink this one and be very happy if someone offered it. Drink now or hold 1 or 2 years.
