Medium red color. Tasting pour. Cinnamon, clove, horse, leather, gourmet ketchup - which might sound bad, but isn't - cherry. The palate is bright tart cherry, tangy, nice depth, earthy, good length and texture, funk, and a subtle herbal line. I have to disagree that this is simple. Always an overachiever, my opinion is this vintage will be even better.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Gorgeous nose with red fruits, plush and seductive, dillweed, oak. The palate is high toned, red raspberry, fairly tangy, vanillin, oak, subtle wood spice, dried dillweed, good verve. Pretty stuff, and with a little time should come together even better.
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
Medium dark red color. Tasting pour. Dried earth, red fruit, subtle brett; the palate shows a fuller body, black raspberry, blackberry, funk, wood, a bit blousey and flabby, though it gets better over 20 minutes. Nose is better than palate. 88+pts.
Tasting pour. Nasty medicinal, bandaid nose, cherry cough drop, lessens somewhat, but still pretty rough. Mike insists this is correct. Ok, you can have it. No desire to get past that.
Tasting pour. PNP, first taste of the '14 and it isn't close to ready. Nose shows black tea, red fruits, earth, lively, great tannins and structure, licorice, mineral dust, vanilla, so young. Needs 2+ years. Promising as expected.
