Introduction

We knew the theme, but all wines were tasted fully blind.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • NV Heidsieck & Co. Monopole Champagne Premier Cru Brut 89 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

A “joke” by the host. The same wine in two different glasses. Glass one the traditional flute, glass two bigger and tulip shaped. In both glasses white fruits and citrus. For me personally in the flute the wine showed a little less complex and soft tropical. In the second glass, the citrus was more up front, and the wine more dry and complex. What to think. 88 – 89

  • 2006 Gaja Barbaresco 94 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Intense wine with chocolate, forest impressions, earth, cherries, a lot of acidity and powerful tannin. There are some signs that the wine is not really youthful, but it still needs a lot of air (or ageing) to show what it has in store. 93 – 94+ for tonight.
