  • This is drinking incredibly well tonight. Deep maroon, tawny rim. Meaty aroma on the nose, then reveals red currents, soy, toffee, Asian spices. Rich yet lively, very long finish.

  • Adventures in Ginza: First time having Chave Hermitage and was not disappointed. This opened up with wisps of tobacco, smoke, plums and bacon whilst pepper, sage, dark plums and licorice dominate the palate. Slightly green and herbal throughout the evening with a chalky finish. Discounting the greenness, there was immense fruit concentration amidst an elegant backdrop with a lining of minerality.

I understand this to be a weaker vintage and perhaps maybe why this was so elegant.

  • I like the nose with its flowers, olives, herbs, tobacco, smoke and bitter cherry nose. The medium bodied palate displays a distinctive, herbal and and green edge to the chalky, bright, cranberry and bright cherry finish. Drink from 2024-2038.

  • A lighter vintage for Chave. Opened for about 4 hrs in bottle before serving. No decant. In a nice phase to drink now. Smoky black plum and cherry, with olive and smoky bacon. Very elegant and balanced. Palate is fresh and juicy with long mineral streak finish. With time in the bottle, the wine actually puts on a little weight.
