France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru
From Coravin. A little funkiness, wet stone, perhaps a smidge of cork taint, muddy, brambles, sweet spice. Juicy to the point of sourness, blackberry fruit, a little oiliness. Hmm, taint not on palate, quite broad.
Panic (that taint on the nose) led me to grab a roast chicken and open this immediately. With time the blackberry fruit grew riper and sweeter; especially on the palate. The nose gets more funky, earthy, Autumnal and mushroomy with a little spearmint lift. I decanted half of the bottle and set it to one side whilst we consumed the first half. Unsurprisingly the wine softened further becoming easy and fleshy but finished with a touch of pain d'epices. Yum.
From Coravin. Slightly dusty, plums, cream, slight vanilla, sweet spice, red and blackberries and a touch of herbaceousness and a little toast. In the mouth it's fleshy with black fruits, tight talc-textured tannins, broad not opulent but moving in that direction. Perfectly pleasant.
From Coravin. Biscuit, black pepper, savoury spice, wet blackberry, crushed rock. More of the same on the palate with chalky tannins and a little alcohol warmth on the finish but this is so wonderfully balanced.
In my albeit limited experience I seem to only have pleasurable tastings from this producer...Hmm.
From Coravin. Initially this was a bit offish with concentrated and ripe fruit; blackberry, cherry and blackcurrant married to chocolate, vanilla and a fair whack of age and slight oxidation, leather and sweet spice. Quite raisined on the palate, plenty of alcohol, grippy, floury tannins, concentrated, dense and very, very long. This is bit of a beast regardless...
With time it becomes far more harmonious on the nose, the raised quality of the fruit dissipates and this turns into a pretty fine, mature, Californian Cabernet. I think a meeting with a decanter and some smoked brisket will be this wine's apogee. Yum
From Coravin. Low intensity aromas of lychee, melon and roses, cream, vanilla and honey. Initially on the palate it's quite lightweight and then it explodes with lychees in honey syrup, crème caramel and vanilla custard. The only fault would be a slight lack of length but, at 35 years old, this is a bit of a stunner.
