Tasting with Christophe. I believe all 2017s (except Musigny) were tasted from neutral barrels.

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. Just finished ML. Black and red cherry with good balance and textures. Shockingly long finish for wine so young at this level. 89-91 point potential.

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. ML 50% complete. More black vs red fruit with bright start, brooding middle, firm finish, but this wine always needs a decade+ in the cellar. Very good length. 89-91 point potential.

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. Just starting ML. Big, bold and very juicy. Tartness middle through finish, but that's just its stage in ML. So much great stuff here.

• 2017 Christophe Roumier Charmes-Chambertin Aux Mazoyeres

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. ML almost complete. Very dense, very meaty with mostly black fruit to start, then some red cherry middle-to-finish. Very elegant for young Gevrey at this level, 91-94 point potential.

• 2017 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. ML 50+% complete. Black and meaty with impressive power for the vintage. Slightly tannic finish, but some much sweet fruit that this is clearly harmonious already. This will be a big step up from the very good Charmes-Chambertin, with 93-95 point potential.

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. ML complete. Red fruit with moderate weight and fun spice hints. Very good balance, good length. Second vintage for this wine, but the first that Christophe fully managed, so 2016 probably won't be released (given the 1/2 barrel produced).

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. ML just 25% complete. Black and red cherry and berry on nose and palate, plus some black plum aromas. Dense and mouthcoating. So complete that I couldn't believe ML was just 1/4 done. Great length, almost weightless already, which is head-scratching given how concentrated this seems with so much dry extract. A wow wine in the making.

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. ML complete. This will include 2 new, 4 used barrels. Bright red cherry and berry throughout with savory spice. So clear, long and expanding. So balanced already. Even more 'wow' than Bonnes Mares. 96-97 point potential.

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. Christophe had forgotten about this earlier, so we squeezed it in. Meaty cherry aromas, more black vs red to start, softer middle-through-finish. Almost Gevrey-like to me today. 90-93 point potential.

  Barrel tasting at the domaine. Lots of complex red and black fruit here, less ethereal vs Amoureuses, but greater concentration. Magic in a glass already.
  
  100% whole cluster. ML complete, with the barrels (1 new, 1/2 neutral) SO2'ed a few days earlier. Christophe made an assemblage of the 2 barrels, taking from the top of the barrels because he adds SO2 using a pill in the lees.

  Tasted at the domaine from 375 ml bottle. Slight reduction. Bright red with lots of energy and textural brightness. Certainly showing 1er Cru density. 10 hl/ha.

  Tasting at the domaine. Complex red and black berry and cherry aromas and flavors. Starts out with robust fruit, then savory spice comes through. Rich textures to start, followed by an elegant weightlessness, then a bigger finish that comes across as ripe, dense and elegant. Very long finish.

  Tasting at the domaine. Black berries, black cherries and red cherries with alluring aromas, followed by bigger and brawnier flavors, then very firm in the middle, followed by a softer finish. So much of everything here makes this approachable, but this really wants to be left alone for a decade or two.
