#10-89, 8.5% abv. Not the best showing. Seems a bit advanced. Has the right Sonnenuhr funk, but it's a little advance and the fruit has a slight browned tinge. Improperly caramelly too. Drinkable, but next to the stunning, non-corked bottle of GH, the difference is stark.

#04-89, 7.5% abv. Stunning Spätlese. This shows the classic green herbs and taut minerality. Racy and fresh, with incredible complexity. Seems ridiculously young as well. On the palate, this is still lively, but there's a very nice oiliness here that is cut by the acidity. Finishes with some green citrus and herbs -- absolutely convincing stuff!

Served double blind. So candied on the nose and palate that this could only be young Beaujolais. I can see why some people like this, but this doesn't taste like wine to me. Red fruit candy, maybe?

Served double blind and immediately identified as Chave Hermitage. Black fruit, dense, slightly sweet and very powerful, but with ample acidity to cut through the palate. Some polish, lots of spice, and some meaty elements. The acidity threw me way off here -- I thought this was a 2004. Perhaps a touch advanced, but I'm thinking this is an early drinking vintage anyway.

This is clearly grand cru quality on the nose and palate, but I'd have to say it's a hint more advanced than it ought to be. Quite a bit of stone fruit, but a slight uncomfortable hint of brown apple too. Some bottle variation here, if I'm to look at past notes...?

Knowing the low quality of corks in this era, I was terrified that this would be corked. How fortunate that those fears did not come to pass. Absolutely stunning Cornas. As good as it gets in the Rhone. Black-fruited, meaty, spicy, a touch of coffee, and wholly Cornas. The palate shows tons of Cornas character, with lots of blood and iron. The fruit is still there as well to round out this wine. Tannins are mostly resolved -- this is fully ready to drink now and is pretty much exactly what it should be.

#14-99, 12% abv, 9818. Super exotic and tropical nose, just the way Müller-Catoir ought to be. Passion fruit, green herbs, mangos, and all that good stuff. On the palate though, I think that this had seen better days. It's mostly just acid at this point, though there are still fossilized signs of the fruit that used to be.

From half-bottle. Incredibly opulent on the nose, with intense botrytis, marmalade, honey, and spice. The palate is certainly in line with that nose as well -- incredibly opulent, complex, and rich, with tons of sweetness that is cut by both a surprising amount of acidity and that classic bitter orange flavour. Killer stuff, as always.

#15-18, 9.5% abv. Mild, herbal tones on the nose. Very delicate, with some light honey and floral tones. Not as flinty and stony as the 2016 Pettenthal I had recently, this is a softer wine, and while there are lovely mineral and stone notes, there's a nice roundness on the palate. Delicious tart stone fruit on the finish, with a touch of sappiness that is a little different, but delicious all the same.

2000 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

There's a generous amount of reductive popcorn on the nose here, the right sort for white Burgundy. Counterbalanced with citrus and lots of racy freshness. The palate is incredible and rich, with a broad fatness that speaks strongly of the terroir. Better than the Chevalier of the same vintage. Flinty, minerally, and powerful. Killer stuff -- probably at peak right now.

Classic Dujac spice with accentuated earthy tones on the nose as well. The palate is earthy but there's lovely spice and fruit that gives this a lot of freshness. Racy acidity and elegant, this is clearly young but to me, sufficiently resolved for pleasurable drinking already.

Very young, with tons of lovely spice and black fruit. Opulent and rich, with a touch of raw oak on the palate -- this needs a lot of time to fully resolve. A fairly convincing bottle of Burgundy now, though I hope that this will integrate and soften with that added time.

NV Lelarge-Pugeot Champagne Tradition Extra Brut 85 Points

Mildly reductive on the nose, with some pleasant fruit and bready notes. The palate is fairly pleasant, but finishes a little short. Good acidity, but the lower dosage probably makes this cut a little too much.
