With this group of friends, it's always fun to throw in some blinds and see what happens.
Really awesome trio with some delicious pate and root vegetable soup.
Wow, this showed exceptionally well. Nose of lemons, chalk, sea salt, oyster shells. Crisp, pristine balance on the palate, depth and zesty acidity work so well together. Lemons, limes, tons of complex minerals, chalk, limestone, minerals. This seemed so in balance, although I'd love to check back on a bottle in two years.

I thought this bottle showed really well. Deep, richer aromas, a hint reduced but it opens up nicely. Plump texture, rich and creamy on the palate but precise acidity, lots of minerals. Lots of depth, long finish, in a very nice place.

Gorgeous aromas, lots of young depth but it's also really fresh, salty, with lemon, chalky notes. Plush texture, nice depth, crisp acidity, concentrated fruit with chalky minerals. Young but beautiful, I'd love to see this to bury this for five years.

Some beauts in here.
Nose shows tons of rich black cherries, plums, violets, this is bold and hefty on the nose. On the palate, a black cherry explosion with plump, young, chewy fruit and notes of violets and earth. This seems to need time. The ripest and most candied wine of the tasting.

Nose: still dark and full of fruit, but some pepper, beef, spiced tea, clove, savory but clean. Strong tannins and still a lot of density, still seems young and plummy with lots of deep cherry. Notes of violets, herbs, spiced tea, lots of aging potential still to go here. A lot of R-M 05s I've have have aged quickly and showed lots of maturity, but this seems to be just on the edge of a good long drinking window.

A bold display on the nose: sweet cherries, cocoa, roses, toasted oak and bourbon. Juicy fruit on the palate, dense structure, this is grippy and young, showing gobs of plump cherry fruit. Some black tea, violets, herbs underneath, but the fruit is still dominant, primary. Still, the flavors and depth are on point. I'd bury this for a eight or ten years and hopefully awesomeness will ensue.

Pretty nose of roses, herbs, pepper, tart cranberry sauce. Crisp and floral on the palate with roses, spice, leather, bay leaf, on top of juicy cranberry and red cherry fruit. Showing well now, but I'd like to see what this does in 3-6 years.

This was my red contribution and so stoked it showed well for the crew. It seems to be just entering an awesome drinking window that should serve it well for a long time. Airy and floral on the nose with pretty cherries, strawberries, some herbs and earth and gravel. Structured will grippy tannins but the acidity is so bright and refreshing. Airy and floral, sappy and gravelly, wow the depth here is gorgeous, it's viscous and bold yet so vibrant and expressive. Pretty strawberries and cherries laced with roses, potpourri, herbs, flowers. Wonderful showing, but this has a long life ahead. I'd love to revisit in five to eight years.

Aromas of raspberries, plums, smoky charcoal and peppered beef notes. Grippy, young, tannic, compact raspberry and cherry fruit laced with smoky, beefy notes. Dense but delicious, needs time to smooth out a bit

So jammy on the nose, with tons of fruit and notes of black tea and smoke. Jammy and compote-fueled on the palate with berry and plum extract mixed with black tea, savory spices, some mineral. Acidity is still present, so this isn't a total bake-off, but shows some complex and interesting elements.

2016 Envinate Palo Blanco 90 Points
Spain, Canary Islands, Tenerife, Valle de la Orotava
Salty and lemon-driven on the nose. Palate: briny, salty, brisk, dry, lemons and minerals. Tasted blind, and I was all over the place but knew I would be wrong (Jura, not funky enough; Muscadet, texture is too deep; Chablis, lacking that intensity and verve). Really fun wine, exciting stuff that I'd be curious on how this ages.

2016 Broc Cellars Chardonnay Michael Mara Vineyard 93 Points

Enticing, deep yet vibrant aromas. Waxy texture on the palate yet pristine acidity, chalky, minerals, preserved lemon, sea spray. Wow this is beautiful and young. Tasted blind. I guessed recent release of a high-end Santa Cruz Mountains Chard.

2000 Domaine Denis Bachelet Côte de Nuits Villages 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Nuits Villages
Aromas of strawberries, mullling spices, roses, forest floor. Crisp and floral on the palate, a chalky texture, really pretty with strawberry and raspberry fruit, cool and chilled. Notes of flowers and spice as well. I guessed 2000 Beaune 1er Cru. Very pretty and showed really well - I'd drink these now but it could hold.

2000 Bernard Dugat-Py Bourgogne 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Nose shows raspberry and strawberry compote, menthol, musk, mushroom. Crisp and savory on the palate, dusty and earthy with bitter strawberry, cherry pits. Tannins still providing good structure, this has a rich texture with darker fruit and notes of oak and coffee yet shows evolved notes of rose potpourri and dried mushrooms. Showing wonderfully now, I threw out a 05 Cote de Nuits 1er Cru, and was surprised to see this was a 2000 Bourgogne level, although not surprised to see the producer. I really liked this bottle and thought it showed really well and still has time to go if kept anything like this bottle was. I think it's from young vines near Gevrey?

1986 Cameron Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 95 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
What a treat. Tasted blind, and I was freaking in love with this wine. When it was unveiled as an 86 Cameron, I was so amazed because I'm a huge fan. Nose showed celery seed, mushrooms, peppercorns, I quipped "it smells like someone's pickling a bunch of stuff in their garage," but there's also some lovely raspberries, red cherries. Dusty texture on the palate with crisp acidity, there's still strawberry and cherry fruit, but it's loaded with complex and beautiful notes of smoke, menthol, savory broth, rose potpourii, pickling spices, minerals. I threw out early 90s Cote de Beaune but didn't really have much confidence, just knew it was beautiful stuff.
