Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2002 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut 94 Points

    France, Champagne

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Clear, pale golden color. Clean, youthful and a bit muted but complex nose. Lime, green apple, autolytic nose (brioche, yeast). I guess it would improve with air.
On the palate very elegant, balanced and fine. Very fruity and with a surprising sweetness, so definitely not extra brut. Fine mousseux, wonderful integrated acidity. Very long and lingering. Certainly still young and with good potential. 93-94+

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2016 Fritz Haag Juffer Riesling Großes Gewächs 92 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, youthful and expressive nose. Papaya, Mango, mineral notes, herbaceous. What a great nose! Like smelling a basket of ripe, fresh exotic fruits!
On the palate “Mosel dry”, probably at the very legal edge of being off-dry. Again, lovely sweet, exotic fruit basket, melon, peach, mixed with a wonderful mineral core. Medium+, acidity, that could need some more years to fully blend in. Some CO2. Dense, good pressure, a bit creamy, round and maybe a bit “chubby”. Long. Great PQR! 92+

  • 2016 Künstler Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland Riesling Großes Gewächs 91 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, pale golden color. The complete opposite of the opulent, expressive Juffer we drunk in parallel. Clean, youthful nose. Very mineral and dense, some yellow fruit, herbs. Needs air to unfold.
On the palate it is all about structure and texture. Very mineral, dense. Airy, but with good tension and pressure. Needs time and air, certainly too young at the moment. Long! Great potential and PQR. Give it 2-3+ years. 91-92+

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 2006 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs 90 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, medium golden color with an amber hue. Clean, ripe, developing nose, some buttery notes, botrytis. Hmm, had this better and more expressive before.
On the palate you can feel Keller’s signature of Hubacker, but this bottle showed more than all bottles I had before the complicated vintage. Or it might be a not optimal bottle. As always a wonderful salty mineral core, depth and tension. Hubacker typical a bit broader and muscular. But also very ripe, buttery and driven by botrytis flavors. Good length. This particular bottle was at its full peak or slightly past peak. 90-91

90% CS, 5% Carmenere and 5% Petit Verdot. Popped and poured. Clear, deep tawny color. Clean, quite expressive, developing nose with lots of red fruit, green pepper, some cassis, spices. Deep and lovely.
On the palate very silky, creamy and dense. 14% abv well integrated. Good, high acidity. Lots of red fruit and herbs, oak is well integrated. Still young, but pleasant to drink. Very good new world blend with upscale potential. 91-92+

  • 2013 Montes Alpha M 90 Points

    Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
80% CS, 10% CF, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Popped and poured. Clear, deep ruby color. Clean, nose, not very expressive.
On the palate a bit hot (14,5% abv). Red fruit, dense, deep and long. Well made, but you can feel that this wine is designed and has no soul or excitement. Boring. 90-91+

  • 2005 Château Duhart-Milon 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, medium ruby color. Clean, classic BDX nose, some brett, spices, red fruit, some lovage (but not in an deteriorated way).
On the palate beautiful acidity, lean, a bid edgy, tight, medium+ tannin, spicy, good structure. Joyful to drink, but I guess it has still some upscale potential. 91+

  • 2005 Château Lascombes 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, medium ruby color. Clean, classic BDX nose, leather, brett, some tobacco, riper than the Duhart.
On the palate round, soft, dense, salty mineral core, lovely red fruit, herbaceous. Nice, animating acidity. Drinks very well at the moment. At the moment a bit better than the Duhart. On the long run, I am not so sure.. 91-92

  • 2014 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon 88 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, deep purple color. Clean, youthful nose with lots of kitschy, artificial cherry notes.
On the palate round and soft, silky texture, dense, salty, but again with lots of artificial, kitschy fruit. Seems “made”. Certainly, too young, but will it get much better? 88-89

  • 1995 Opus One 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, deep tawny color. Clean, medium intese, developing nose. Very deep and dense with some tobacco, leather, fine spices and some brett. Complex and beautiful
On the palate dry, 13,5% abv very well integrated. Beautiful red fruit, spices, green pepper. Not as wild and rough as I rember from my last bottle. Rather elegant. Wonderful tension, very long! At its full peak! Really beautiful! 94-95

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, medium golden color. Clean, beautiful medium+ intense nose with fine yellow fruit, white peach, some petrol, anise, slate, fine herbs. Deep, dense, lovely.
On the palate very subtle, but with a beautiful tension and density. Fine yellow fruit, wonderful acidity, glaze. Wonderfully balanced and harmonious. Juicy, with a lovely mineral core. Long and lingering. Potential for at least two more decades! 93-94+

Flight 10 (1 Note)

  • 2003 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese #14 92 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

    Glass: Gabriel Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, medium golden color. Clean, nose, not as expressive as the Prüm we had before, but very elegant, driven by pure, ripe exotic fruit.
2003 was hot and warm, certainly a challenge to produce racy Riesling wines. This Auslese is all about balance and harmony. It is very silent and because it has only low level of acidity, it seems broad and not exciting. But if you focus on the taste, you feel its depth, purity and complexity. It rests in itself. Lovely fruit juice, that I could drink all day. Lingering, fruity finish. 92+
