Flight 1 - Mixed Wines (21 Notes)

2008 Continuity has been consistent and excellent for the price. 2008 RHD and 2014 RHD is worth a bottle or two. Really can't go wrong on any.

  • 2008 Davenport Cellars Continuity 93 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (12/30/2019)

Day 1: Holly S... This just took over the top wine of 2019 for 3 Day Wine Review for wines under $30.00. $10.50 on their closeout special which concluded on December 28. Just picked this up from FedEx Office today and it is outstanding. No bottle shock which is a myth to begin with. 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 9% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. From the following vineyards Kiona, Seven Hills, Sheridan and Burgess.
Classic Washington State. Leather, tobacco, blueberries, cherry and minerality. Drinking unbelievable. So balanced and very Bordeaux like. This would do well in a blind tasting. I am so happy my brother Brian confirmed how great this wine was as he gave it 92 points on two separate occasions. I only bought 4 and regret not getting a case. This wine should age another 3 to 5 years. 93 + points
Day 2: This is not nearly in the same league and based on that drink on day 1. You don't need to decant this wine.

  • 2008 Davenport Cellars Continuity 94 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (1/17/2020)

Day 1: Yes this is wine of the year candidate! Tobacco, spice, dark cherries, menthol, earth and dried twigs. Medium plus finish and picks up some nice exotic spices on the finish. Talk about a wine in its sweet spot. Did I mention this wine was $11 on a sale 3 weeks ago. 93 points
Day 2: Excellent on day 2. Tobacco, dark fruits, menthol, dried leaves, earth and exotic spices. Nice gravel elements on medium plus finish. Unbelievable wine for $10.50. 94 points
Recommendation: Even at the full $30.00 s real bargain.

  • 2008 Davenport Cellars Continuity 93 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (3/7/2020)

Day 1: Again yes sediment. Strain the wine. Absolutely beautiful wine with cherry, blueberries, plum, coffee beans, gravel and floral notes. Someone on Wine Berserkers asked what is the best wine under $20.00 and this is it. I will be announcing when they have the sale on the remaining wines at Davenport. Just brilliant. 92 points
Day 2: Beautiful. Blueberries, cherries, toasted oak, floral, dust and coffee beans. Picks up some gravel on the medium plus finish. Wow! 93 points

  • 2008 Davenport Cellars Continuity 94 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (2/18/2020)

Day 1: Decanted some sediment and this wine is awesome. Cherry, plum, menthol, spices, blueberries and perfume. A bit different than the last 2 bottles as this is showing more fruit but is gorgeous. Medium plus finish. 92 points
Day 2: Excellent on day 2. These wines have a ton of aging potential. Blueberries, cherry, spice, earth, menthol, mild oak and vanilla. Beautiful wine. Medium plus finish. The fact this is better on day 2 should indicate another 5 plus years of aging. 93 points
Day 3: The notes on the sludge impacting the wine are confusing. Many wines over 10 years might have a little sludge on the cork which does not impact the quality of the wine. This wine is glorious on day 3. Beautiful example of the top vineyards in Washington coming together. Menthol, bright fruits featuring cherry, blueberries and plums. Spices, floral and mild oak. Balanced and medium plus finish. If you could find a Cabernet Blend in the world for under $15.00 this good then please let me know! 94 points
Recommendation: Buy this when they have their sale in late March/early April.

  • 2012 Davenport Cellars Continuity 91 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (1/22/2020)

Day 1: Purchased this on the 65% off sale. Very solid wine and plenty of life left here. Mineral driven along with cherry, blueberries and floral notes. A very balanced effort and medium plus finish. Really get some nice iron notes on the finish. This should evolve over the next 8 plus years. Very good. 91 points
Day 2: Better than day 1 and more concentration featuring spices, floral, blueberries, cherry, minerals and oak. Very complex wine and long finish. A serious wine and for the deal we got on this a candidate for top wine of the year under $30.00. 92+ points

  • 2012 Davenport Cellars Continuity 92 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (4/3/2020)

Day 1: Some sediment so decant. Dark purple. Blueberries, boysenberries and ripe plum. Wonderful palate featuring smoke brisket, earth, menthol, raspberries and dark fruit. A concentrated effort and a real steal of a deal at $15.00 a bottle on the Davenport Cellars Spring Sale. 92 points
Day 2: Not nearly as good as day 1. A bit hot with blueberries, spices, earth and dried herbs. Medium finish. Hopefully this comes around later today. 87 points
Day 3: Much better on day 3. Blueberries, menthol, ripe plums, spice and smoke brisket. Medium plus finish. Plenty of life here. 91 points
Recommendation: Drink this now. I liked day 1 better than day 3.

  • 2013 Davenport Cellars Continuity 90 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (3/25/2020)

Day 1: More elegant than the 2014. Spice, minerals, raspberries, spearmint, blueberries and wood. This is a drink me now wine. For $15.00 with shipping a good value. Not a rock star like the 08 or 12 but good overall. 88 points
Day 2: More fruit showing featuring cherry and blueberries. Spice, menthol and dried herbs. A bit of wood on the dry finish. Certainly not in the league of the 08 or 12 but very drinkable for the price. 88 points
Day 3: Gravel, earth, slight funk, raspberries and blueberries. Tobacco on finish. Nice improvement on day 3. 90 points
Recommendation: This wine should improve over time and certainly did on day 3. Drink now to 2028.

  • 2014 Davenport Cellars Continuity 91 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (3/25/2020)

Day 1: Blueberries, raspberries, forest floor, earth and spice. Powerful wine and very young from a great 14 vintage. Medium plus finish. 91+ points
Day 2: Big wine with blueberries, dust, cherry, forest floor and spices. This has some sediment floating around so recommend decanting this wine. Very nice overall. 91 points
Day 3: Napa Valley style. Blueberries, cherry, spices and ageing potential. 91 points
Recommendation: This will cater more to the wine drinker who likes a little higher alcohol Napa Valley Cabernet. This does not possess the elegance of the 08. Should drink well over the next 5 to 10 years.

  • 2015 Davenport Cellars Continuity 92 Points

Day 3: More intense wine on day 3 and fruit is showing in abundance. Dark cherries, blueberries and ripe plums. Spice, iron and dust complete the intense wine. Medium to long finish. This should drink well for years. 92 points
Recommendation: If you have a six pack try these every 2 years. If you have one bottle drink after 2025.

  • 2008 Davenport Cellars R.H.D. 91 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (2/27/2020)

Day 1: Cassis, gravel, funk, burnt toast, blueberries and earth. On the medium finish picks up some sweetness in a good way. This is a mature wine that should be consumed sooner than later but a very solid effort. 91 points
Day 2: Fading a bit and recommend pop and pour on this wine. Earth, blueberries, mild oak, underbrush and gravel. 88 points
Recommendation: Pop and pour and consume. Drink now to 2022.

  • 2013 Davenport Cellars R.H.D. 90 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (2/11/2020)

Day 1: Blueberries, boysenberries, smoke, mild oak, spices and dried herbs. Short to medium finish. Based on the 14 showing on day 1 I will predict day 2 will improve. 89 points
Day 2: Better and more open for business. These Davenport wines are long term agers. Perfumed nose and palate along with cherry, blueberries, spices, smoke and dried herbs. The finish is better on day 2 and much longer. 90 points
Day 3: Plenty of flavor here and this wine needs time to fully come together. Cherry, blueberries, perfume, spice and floral notes. A subtle smoke element on the finish. Medium plus. 90 points
Recommendation: I would hold these until 2024.

  • 2014 Davenport Cellars R.H.D. 91 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (2/4/2020)

Day 1: Cigar, plum, subtle spices, dust and minerals. Elegant overall and medium finish. There is some fruit ready to emerge but might need some time to do so. Score withheld on day 1.
Day 2: More open for business. Menthol, cherry, plum, spices, minerals and fragrant floral notes. Good acidity and medium finish. This is enjoyable but lacks concentration on the finish. 88 points
Day 3: Serendipity. I left the cork off from day 2 to 3 which I never do when I do 3 Day Wine Reviews. This worked and give much promise to this wine. This is a long term ager. Featuring sour cherry, plum, spice, minerals, floral and tobacco. Very complex wine overall and much better than day 1 and 2. 91-93 points
Recommendation: HOLD! Drink this wine from 2025 to 2030.

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (4/8/2020)

Day 1: This is amazing stuff. Earth, black licorice, floral, dark fruits and minerals. This is a well made wine with some intensity. Serve this with a steak or burger and you are set. 92 points
Day 2: Still rocking. Gravel, earth, minerals, floral and fruits are more light in character. Wonderful effort. Maybe a half a point less in quality on day 2. 91.5 points
    Recommendation: Drink and enjoy!

  • 2015 Davenport Cellars Patch 90 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (4/9/2020)

Day 1: Just coming off the excellent 2014 Mr. B. Patch is a tasty wine and the price is right. Juicy fruit featuring plum, cherry and mulberries. Some spice and floral notes. Nice wine. 90 points
Day 2: Similar to day 1. Nothing amazing but certainly a solid tasty wine. 90 points
Recommendation: Good wine for non wine geeks for parties. You want a better wine get the Mr. B 2014 for the same price.

  • 2014 Davenport Cellars Mr. B 92 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (4/10/2020)

Day 1: Just ordered another case of this yesterday. Best wine under $15 right now. Cherry, blueberries, stone, menthol and mild spices. Rock star wine! 92 points
Day 2: Similar to day 1 and holds up great. This is a no brainer on a case purchase.

  • 2015 Davenport Cellars R.H.D. 90 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (4/14/2020)

Day 1: Needed some air to review on day 1. Smoked meats, red currants, spice and a nice mineral streak. Again these wines exceed the quality in relationship to the price. $14 for this wine puts it in the top 1% of any wine in the world at this price point. 90 points
Day 2: Day 2 has not been as kind to this wine. A bit astringent. Some sour cherry, twigs and earth. While a decant price I would go with other recommendations I have had from the Davenport Lineup. 85 points

  • 2016 Davenport Cellars Pinot Noir 90 Points

    USA, Oregon

    (4/15/2020)

Day 1: Had to try this as they were making some nice Washington State Reds so worth a bottle. Dark purple for Pinot. Wood, strawberry, rose petals, sweet cherries and perfume. While this is not my ideal Oregon style Pinot Noir this is really tasty. Might have to get a few more for every day drinkers. 89 points
Day 2: Better. This is a really nice Pinot from Willamette and few wines in the under $20 category will compete with this. More rustic today with forest floor, wood, rose petals, strawberry and cherry. Medium finish and good acidity. This is a winner for sure. 90 points
Recommendation: $14 a bottle on the 50% off sale is a great bargain.
This is a three-way blend of clones 115, 777 and Pommard.

    Aged in French oak. Cases

  • 2014 Davenport Cellars Mr. B 92 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (4/16/2020)

Day 1: Just got it today and rocks. Yes you can get a shipment of wine and drink right away. Nice fruit featuring blueberries, cherry, plum along with menthol and mild earth. Tasty is a great descriptor. Probably will be my top under $20 wine of the year. 92 points
Day 2: Solid again. Fruit forward style featuring cherry, plum, blueberries. Menthol, spice and underbrush. Medium plus finish. One of the great QPR's out there. 92 points
44% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Malbec and 12% Cabernet Franc.
Fruit sources include Sheridan Vineyard in Rattlesnake Hills, Les Collines in Walla Walla and Kiona on Red Mountain.
    Recommendation: Case purchase.

  • 2014 Davenport Cellars Mr. B 93 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (4/19/2020)

Day 1: This is a slam dunk (Michael Jordan Last Ride Tonight) as one of the year in terms of value. Juicy fruits featuring blueberries, cherries and plum. Menthol, minerals and spice. This tastes like a $80 Napa Bordeaux Blend.
44% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Malbec and 12% Cabernet Franc. 93 points
Day 2: Hard for this wine to make it to day 3. Beautiful fruit. You really get the benefit of the Malbec on this wine. Nice fruits and menthol, minerals and spices. 93 points
    Recommendation: Buy!

Day 1: 36 bottles ordered. Holy sh..! Blueberries, dark cherries, dark chocolate, earth and menthol. Not many would guess this wine in a blind tasting as a $15.00 bottle of wine. Might be the best wine I have ever tasted in the QPR category. 94 points
Day 2: Solid showing the gorgeous fruit of day 1 along with dark chocolate, sour raspberries, menthol and forest floor. Just a great Bordeaux style blend from Washington. 93 points

Flight 2 - 2008 Continuity (2 Notes)

  • 2008 Davenport Cellars Continuity 93 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (3/27/2020)

Day 1: Beautiful. Better than the last one I opened earlier in the week. When you get the gob of sediment on the cork usually that is a winner. Just use a strainer into the glass and we are ready for greatness. Cherry, plum, dust, menthol, minerals, dried herbs and subtle spice. Wonderful on the pop and pour and medium finish. For $15.00 just lovely. 92 points
Day 2: Wonderful featuring blueberries, cherry, smoked meat, spice and menthol. Medium plus finish and balanced. 93 points
Day 3: I should have consumed this wine on day 2. Not nearly as good.
Recommendation: Drink these up on day 1 and 2.

  • 2008 Davenport Cellars Continuity 90 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    (3/24/2020)

Day 1: Pop and pour featuring menthol, Bing cherries, plum and spices. This is solid but not as good as previous bottles. 89 points
Day 2: A little better with spice, blueberries, Bing Cherries, plum and menthol. Medium plus finish and nice earthiness tones. For under $15 a bottle a winner. 90 points
Day 3: Similar to day 2 with more of a sour cherry than the Bing Cherries. For sure some time left on these outstanding deals. 90 points
Recommendation: Buy this on their 50% off sale happening at the end of March. $15.00 a bottle.
