Nose of woodsy spice, red fruit, barnyard, menthol. Initially thin and medicinal, this fleshed out a bit with time in the glass to reveal flavors of balsa wood spice. with an acidic tickle and and chewy, astringent structure. Interesting finish with notes of savory spice, cinnamon, clove. Began to decline after an hour in the glass. My 5/9, group's 7/9. (0/2/0/1)
A high-pitched candied note on the nose, somewhat acrid. Spicy and woodsy on the palate. Finishes with leathery spice, slightly astringent. Grows more weird and tired in the glass. This was flash in the pan, flavors are quickly turning pruney, dried fruit, meh. My 8/9, group's 9/9. (1/1/0/7)
Wow, a really foul stench here. Seriously nasty, like old garbage or vomit. I am reasonably brett tolerant but this is something else. I avoided tasting this for awhile hoping it would blow off but it was taking its sweet time so i had to grin and bear it. Surprsingly, not so bad on the palate. Juicy red fruits, spice, nice acid. Actually one of the fresher tasting wines here. Tasty, but that nose! Fwiw, i was using a Schott-Zwiesel mature red wines glass which is a serious nasal concentrator; others with standard INAO glasses disagreed about the nose. My 7/9, group's 6/9. (2/0/0/0)
A funky, acrid note on the nose. Dark red fruits, very spicy and leathery, with good midpalate sap. With time a rust/iron note emerges. Really lovely, with good acidic cut and excellent mineral-dominated finish. For me this was a much better bottle vs. my previous taste of this wine. I'd love to own a few bottles, if they were all this good. My 1/8, group's 2/8. (3/2/2/1)
Tarry, funky, animale dominated nose, a real brute. Nice sweet/tart red fruits on the palate with spice and dried fruit, quite concentrated and long. Some tobacco and mineral notes come through. Very tasty. With time, a very elegant spicy strawberry aroma comes through on the nose. My 3/9, group's 1/9. (3/0/4/0)
Seductive nose of chocolate-dipped dried cherries, coca bean husks, tar. Just a touch of VA of the ethyl acetate variety. Nice sweet, tart red fruits, very juicy. Tasty stuff that probably is not 100% nebbiolo. Finishes with dried strawberry and an interesting, savory note. Less concentrated than the previous wine (1985 Vallana Spanna). Finish is a little funky/oaky, and the acid feels clunky. Good. My 4/9, group's 5/9. (1/2/3/1)
Funky, medicinal nose with a touch of must/mold. Very tart. Definitely an unpleasant moldy flavor here, but folks just think it's bad, rather than TCA. Bleah. My 9/9, group's 8/9. (0/1/2/1)
Pungent green tobacco note on the nose with red fruits and animale. Smells like Loire cabernet franc. Very tart, with sour cherry dominating. Very enjoyable, but the acid is a little out of balance even for a freak like myself. Good. My 6/9, group's 4/9. (0/3/0/0)
Killer nose of rich berry liqueur, tobacco, spices, cedar, animale. Quite tart, but not an issue. Mouthfilling, with some still-unresolved tannin. Chewy. Very tasty, this really filled out with time in the glass. Powerful stuff that i'd be more than happy to drink again. My 2/9, group's 3/9. (2/2/1/0)
