  • 2010 Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or 93 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Nose: From the get go, this is so balanced and aromatic with red apples, spiced pears, meyer lemons, warm dough, pastry tones, biscuits, brioche, quince, yellow flowers, mineral notes, and some custard. There is excellent depth and the tones have melded together beautifully into a seamless quality.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, high acidity. There is excellent depth, texture, and balance showing off the class that this possesses. The tones of red apples, spiced pears, quince, meyer lemons, custard, brioche, warm dough, and yellow flowers.

Overall: This is just in a beautiful place as it is moving into the more mature phase while still showing off a lot of freshness. Everything is right in balance at this time and it is in a perfect window for drinking.

  • 2018 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Derthona 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Colli Tortonesi

Nose: The nose is fresh, vibrant, and intriguing with peaches, pears, mint, herbs, white flowers, quince, nectarines, and a bit of minerality. There is very good depth and complexity to the nose with a bit of savoriness.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, high acidity. The acidity has some sting to it, but it isn't overpowering. There is excellent texture and balance with peaches, pears, nectarines, mint, herbs, and white flowers.

Overall: I'm very new to the grape of Timorosso and I like what I've had so far. This is excellent and intriguing with a real succulent fruit profile with lovely, high acidity to provide tension.

  • 2013 EIEIO Pinot Noir Yates Conwill 93 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Nose: Oh baby. This is wide open and aromatic as it fills the glass with sour red cherries, pomegranate, raspberries, earth notes, a touch of pepper, tobacco, baking spices, herbs, and some violets. This has gotten to a maturing point as there is excellent balance and harmony.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. The structure is there, but it is more for framing at this time. The feel is silky and elegant with excellent depth and poised tones of sour red cherries, pomegranate, raspberries, pepper tones, baking spices, tobacco, and violets.

Overall: This is right in its pomp. The fruit has a tartness to it that has balanced out with age while a more subtle side has emerged.

  • 2018 McKinlay Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountains AVA 91 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains

Nose: The nose is wound up a little tight, but it shows off a real elegant and cool side with red cherries, plums, pomegranate, strawberries, licorice, baking spices, herbs, violets, and some earth notes.

Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. The feel is poised and plush with red cherries, plums, pomegranate, licorice, baking spices, herbs, and violets.

Overall: This is yet another new producer to me and I'm really liking what I'm drinking. This shows off some of the warmth of the vintage, but with a laid back and cool side that is quite attractive.

  • 2017 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 90 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

Nose: The nose was pure Chianti in all of the good ways with red cherries, raspberries, licorice, plums, roses, violets, savory herbs, sweet tobacco, and leather notes. There is good depth and balance, though this lacks that level of Riservas or Gran Seleziones.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. The structure is youthful but not overpowering. The feel is textured and balanced with red cherries, plums, raspberries, savory herbs, sweet tobacco, and leather notes.

Overall: This is a lovely Chianti Classico that could use a few more years to develop. This was textbook Chianti Classico and I love it.

  • 2016 Marcarini Barolo La Serra 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Nose: The nose is fresh and feminine with red cherries, strawberries, raspberries, licorice, roasted herbs, rose petals, a touch of leather, and tobacco notes. This is clearly a youthful nose, but there is a ton to like about it right now as it shows off all of the things I love about La Morra.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. The structure is sneaky as it is clearly youthful but the fruit is vibrant with tones of strawberries, red cherries, raspberries, licorice, roasted herbs, rose petals, leather, and some tobacco.

Overall: This was decanted for most of the day and it needed it. There is a lot to like here and while it will deceptively drink now, it will certainly benefit from at least another 5+ years of aging.
