A lovely evening of wines from across Italy
First time trying a wine from Ischia and this was charming.
Intense nose of peach, white flowers, maybe a hint of saline (I’m imagining the vines lapped by spray from the gulf of Naples)
Quite rich on the palate with a silky mouthfeel. Moderate acidity and quite a long finish.

This was lovely - a really good Soave Classico.
Nose of waxy lemon and herbs - thyme and rosemary
Lovely lingering palate perfumed lemon peel and herbs. Finish comes in waves with a silky body and good acidity. I could see this being wonderful with a roast chicken

Served in one of 67PMs Montrachet glasses which served it well. First time trying this producer - a leading exponent of amphora orange wines
Gorgeous colour - almost like a brandy.
The nose is amazingly intense and has me scratching my head for aromas - almost a hint of oud, tropical hard woods, incense, burnt orange, some minerality. Everything is laser like though - super clean and precise
Silky palate with the slightly discombobulating feeling of orange wines of tannins on the background of white wine flavours.
This was a real treat, such an interesting but above all, well made wine

I’ve not had either this specific vineyard of Terre Nere or one of their wines with this much age.
Quite a lot of VA on the nose.
Palate is initially really lovely - dried plum, Asian spice -but ends pretty abruptly with a very dry / bitter finish.
Not sure whether this is driven by the bottle or that 13 years is pushing it for these wines

A lovely evolved nose of balsamic, tomato, dark plum, black tea, old leather (probably the key note here), some smoke and coffee
Time has softened the tannins to a velvety texture with a pleasing acidity too.
I think this is on song now

Bottle purchased from the winery after a visit in 2019.
Decanted for 2 hours
Classic Bea intensity of aroma with a nose of rose, red cherry and red pepper spice.
The intensity continues on the palate but the tannins are pretty fierce still and by this stage I’d finished my burger!
This has long to go but only one bottle of 2010 left which I’d leave for another 5 years then will move on to the 2012

Not decanted
Nose of dried cherry, a little meat and leather, a balsamic and tomato note brings this to Italy
Palate brings a mix of a dried and fresh cherries and plum, fine tongue coating tannins and a long finish.
Probably not ideal to serve this after a Sagrantino but there is some nice elegance here and the finish was impressive

On first pour maybe a little acetone on the nose and even a little spritz which is a bit concerning but this blew off to give dried red cherry and raisin, rose hip and grenadine.
Really unctuous palate - the red fruit element is still there and the acidity cuts through the sweetness nicely.
Sagrantino made this way (Passito) was the historical norm in Montefalco and used for communion wine and this has a hint of the divine. I bought a couple of bottles of this at the winery and sadly this is my last and seems unavailable in the U.K.

Lovely orange hue in the glass. Generous nose of toffee, burnt orange and tangerine
Orange and tangerine syrup on the palate with a little jasmine tea all held together with a decent cut of acidity.
Rather liked this and a good foil to the 67 Pall Mall “Snickers”

2011 Berlucchi Guido Franciacorta Nature 61 91 Points
Italy, Lombardia, Franciacorta DOCG
This has had 5 years on the lees and a fair few more in bottle since
Lovely mix of pastry and fruit on the nose. Maybe getting in the mood for Italian wines but this feels like a nice cornetto con marmelatta di albicocche. Some nice orange notes and autolysis here and pleasing dry finish
Really rather nice
