  • coravined a fairly clean pour after one day upright. left to air in glass about 1.5 hours. (my previous experience with this wine confirms tons of thick sediment)

crazy acidity, full bore tannin through the finish, earthy funk, vibrant dried fruit, and really only mild sweetness in the mix. would be a great pairing for fatty glazed game/fowl???

will update after upright for more days

(update=acid/tannin are unpleasantly over the top. too young. perhaps too much period. multiple days upright and the sludge is intruding on pours halfway down)

  • Wine Pages Giro d’Italia Offline at 67PM (67 Pall Mall): On first pour maybe a little acetone on the nose and even a little spritz which is a bit concerning but this blew off to give dried red cherry and raisin, rose hip and grenadine.
Really unctuous palate - the red fruit element is still there and the acidity cuts through the sweetness nicely.

Sagrantino made this way (Passito) was the historical norm in Montefalco and used for communion wine and this has a hint of the divine. I bought a couple of bottles of this at the winery and sadly this is my last and seems unavailable in the U.K.

  • Italian Wine Scholar Class at the Texas Wine School. Cloudy, deep garnet. Late harvest fruit, air-dried for 4 months before pressing. Lots of VA, even after decanting for several hours, followed by overripe dried plums, figs, medicinal herbs, sweet baking spices. Surprisingly, it is aged only in SS for 4 yrs and then a yr. in bottle before release. Med sweet, with M+ acidity, M alcohol (12.5%) and M+ tannins. Full-bodied, yet balanced and rich, with pronounced flavor intensity and length. Port-like yet non-fortified. Drinking well now, with many years ahead. Worth seeking out for the hedonistic, primal experience.

  • Delicious, serious, port-like, with flavors of fig, strawberry balsamic, and new shoe leather. A previous reviewer warned us about sediment, and I echo that. For its volume, our bottle contained more sediment than I have ever seen in a wine: a layer of soggy purple cornflakes in the bottom fifth of the bottle!!
