Sonoma

Sojourn flies under the radar sometimes, but is some of the most consistently excellent Pinot Noir in Sonoma at a solid QPR. The tasting room is right off the plaza in downtown Sonoma. Highly recommended.
Extradimensional just started offering tastings with winemaker Hardy Wallace (of Dirty & Rowdy fame) at a shared tasting facility along Highway 12 between Sonoma (city) and Santa Rosa. Hardy was a terrific host, and was energetic, knowledgable, and hospitable. His wines are truly unique, with a brightness and energy that stands out. He says his goal is to make wines at the intersection of "fine wine" and "fun wine," and he succeeds. We got to taste five very different wines - rose, white, orange, traditional red, and a unique blend of 5 red + white grapes. Despite the differences, it's hard not to get an almost tactile feel of electric energy on each of these.
After the tasting, Hardy walked us back to his production facility and we tasted barrel samples of a few young wines, including a Merlot and Cab Franc that he is thinking of blending into the most unorthodox (but almost certainly delicious) Right Bank blend I can imagine.
Terrific tasting at Bedrock's historic tasting room in downtown Sonoma. Definitely check it out if you've never been.

Love this wine. Impressive for a first sparkling offering. Sojourn has made great wine from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for so long, so it shouldn't be surprising. Balanced and complex.

I'm not normally a fan of oaked Chardonnay, but I enjoyed this. 40% new oak and 85% malolactic fermentation. Nice balance of acid and oak, with milky texture and good complexity. Good on its own and would be great with food.

Red fruit - strawberry and cherry. Medium-plus acid that makes the wine refreshing and drinkable. Fruit is balanced by rhubarb and a little spice and orange zest. Nice length.

2021 Sojourn Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard Sonoma Coast 95 Points

Complex, with fruit and savory flavors in balance. (Blue fruit, baking spice, touch of wood.) Bright acidity. Long finish. Still tight in the mid-palate; give it several years, like 2024 or 2025 at a minimum. Very good and such a great QPR - year after year, this is some of the best Pinot Noir to be had in Sonoma for under $100.
Spent 11 months in 50% new french oak.

2019 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 93 Points

Very well made but middle-of-the-road Napa cab. Raspberry and chocolate cake, velvety, bright with well-balanced acid. Good wine, but doesn't stand out within the Sojourn portfolio quite as much as the Pinots.
