Old Bordeaux in Tokyo

Old Bdx can be quite amusing and pleasurable.

  Light brown robe.
  Oxidized notes with apples and nuts towards Oloroso.
  This is a mature wine with high acidity.
  Started out a bit anemic, but collected itself fabulously well over the course of the evening.

  Fruit salad, pineapple and grilled coconut flakes. Acidity is restrained and the wine comes with a bit of a fatty mouth feeling. Fairly intense, short and tivoli-fruity.
  
  When the label was revealed, I was honestly surprised. This didn't come across as special. Not a very big step up from the hordes of white Graves.

This is one of my best memories of 2023 - so far…

• 1975 Château La Lagune 91 Points

  Robe: Medium mature Bdx.
  Nez: CF was definitely part of the wine making. Fresh fish, red fruit, sawdust and "maturing Bdx".
  Os: Restrained expression with good fruit. It is unexpectedly youthful. Mid-palate could have more stuffing. Decently complex with beautiful tannins.
  
  Absolutely lovely!
  Has many more years to go.

  Very mature, bricking.
  Nose: dominated by oxidised notes, sous bois but also shows off licorice, charcuterie, metallic aromas, small CF and "gravy".
  In the mouth, this is quite an amazing wine. Not at all as oxidised as the nose had led me to believe. Over the evening, it keeps deepening and growing musculature. Surprisingly pure, red berry fruit. Almost pristine (just a hint of oxidization).
  
  A wine I'm deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to enjoy.

  CF characteristics with a few cows that waked by (brett).
  Pure, red berries in the mouth, finishing lovely with some brett and Bdx earth.

Quite young but nevertheless pleasurable red Bordeaux wines.

  Beautifully mature Bdx colour.
  My blind guess was Pauillac :-)
  Nose screams of Bdx, with cedar, Bdx earth and black currants.
  In the mouth is a lovely lovely wine. Panfried shrimp supporting the cassis, earth and mud in a fabulous way. This is up my alley!

  Red colour with slight bricking.
  Nose with black currants and mint on top of tobacco, Bdx earth and plums.
  My blinded guess: St Julien...
  A bit simple in its general feeling. I fully enjoy the rather strict and restrained structure here. This one is open for the public now, but I wouldn't call it ready to go just yet.

  This is a stunningly fab wine. Tightly built, even if it's a bit bold. Love the menthol note to further liven up the warm, yet tight and beautiful fruit, plums, red berries and touch of sous bois.
  
  Would love to enjoy this wine for an evening, without any distraction.

  Aggro-wine. Aggro acidity. Aggro barrel treatment. Aggro fruit... Coaxing the isht out of the wine, I got whiffs of bell peppers (CF), Bdx earth and North Swedish bog.
  
  I had no idea what this was, so I guessed 2014 St Julien.
  
  Upon seeing the label, I was stunned. 23 years old and feels like a rascal... I'm very happy to have a btl of this rare juice together w/Mats for future pleasures.

  A lovely ending of a fabulous evening. A much better bottle than reflected by the stepmotherly skimpy scoring here on CT.
  
  Beautifully honeyed saffron notes over white flowers, apricots and a long long long deep-dive into canned pineapple and canned mandarins. It sports the acidity and depth to keep me happy. More towards medium sweet than sweet.
