Two very consistent and welcoming bottles. Extra brut but well round and polished and very much an aperitif. Floral soft toast, very much a creamy palate and bright with energy. Very good NV. 89-90
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
A wine we would have never ordered but the sommelier flagged it as something special and OMG it was one of those great wine moments. A well cellared bottle from release, good level and proper cork. The nose alone is an experience, tertiary, truffle/mushroom feel, light spice and a hazelnut almost undertone. The palate continues along the same path and zero issues with oxidation. We have heard stories of great random bottles like this one and finally we have struck gold. An exceptional wine. 96+
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Fresh and bright full on energy and really this does not feel at all 9 years old. So much brightness in it , mineral, light citrus and proper structure. Stone fruits, steely cold feel too and frankly this punches way over its humble village level and will aged happily for another 5+ years. An impressive 91-92
This is not a second wine :) . Effortlessly pretty and drinks very well now albeit it has the capacity to age for many more summers. Still on the fruit and showing very little of a secondary side, just some leather and at times a tobacco feel. Well mannered and round, smooth in a way but in no way boring. Nice richness on the fruit but in an old world style of richness and still present are the last kisses of oak. Fine tannin and a beautiful long finish . 92-93
Jumped out of the list at The Travelers Club, London. We decanted and served after 30 minutes and this we are happy to report is on point. Well evolved, classic and in a way old school and takes advantage of the full beauty that was the 2000 vintage. Still very much a sense of rich fruit, secondary though with that leathery side working well with fine and well round tannin. A beautiful bottle. 93-94
Liquid gold , plain and simple and this is now in the intermediate stage; past the fresh side and not yet the golden oldie. Not that its in anyway not delicious enough just one needs to make the conscious choice of not letting this rest for a few more years to a decade. An easy 95++ now still and indeed liquid gold
South Africa, Coastal Region, Cape Peninsula, Constantia
Once again a 95 and ironically last time we called it a typical and indeed continues the same way, no orange marmalade , brighter , aromatic and akin to a young sauternes of the highest level. Ironically we had it side by side with 2005 Yquem ( Papies 95) and dare we say we loved this more albeit a simpler wine. Beautiful and delicious now and frankly albeit this will age for a long time one should try it at this youthful stage too.
Frankly not a full (or Proper) TN here as it arrived at the end of a very long wine flight to tired palates ( and minds) . Bright and energetic of memory and with a well balance feel. It felt like a 92 maybe more.
We had this wine 3 years ago and was a clear 91. on this occasion was not, something off-putting from nose to palate. We hope its not the wine closing down and its just this bottle issue. Pointless to rate.
