An opportunity to look at some 2016 Bordeaux and a couple white ring-ins from different vintages
The surprise was the Moulin Noir today, very good. Lots of others to enjoy, oak was sometimes still a bit pokey.
2021 Château Rieussec R
France, Bordeaux
Lees work, cream, gooseberry, apple, a little sweet spice. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, tangy textured burr has woody undertones, slightly bitter apple skin, apple, gooseberry, slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth. Pleasant but (at 125AUD) very expensive for what it is...

2016 Château Bernadotte
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Concentrated, slightly baked blackberry, blackcurrant and plum, a little liquorice, sweet spice and an odd earthy/muddy underpin as well as a little alcohol prickle and a tiny black cherry. Juicy, fleshy, brambly black fruits, persistent tannins are woody, drying. A touch of alcohol warmth intrudes on the finish. It's a bit overdone for me.

2016 Château du Moulin Noir
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lussac-St. Émilion
Initially there is plenty of polished oak here; vanilla; caramel; a little red currant note joins plums and blackcurrant, sweet spice. Fresher and juicier than the Bernadotte; the oak is equally present on the palate, cream, plums, red currant. Woody texture. Needs time for the oak to integrate but rather lovely. Handles it's alcohol well.
I went back to this to run it against the other two right bank wines and it proved itself equally pleasant then as well.

2016 Château Lafon-Rochet
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
Aromas of blackcurrant backed by plums, violet, sweet spice, a little caramel, slightly rocky notes. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, polished blackcurrant with a little plummy underpin, plenty of textured grip with woody notes joining the grapey components. Long. Nice.

2016 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Blackcurrant, cassis, a little violet, sweet spice. Very good quality oak, ripe but controlled fruit, a little plain chocolate. Juicy, fleshy, slightly grainy textured grip is based on both wood and grape, cassis, blackcurrant, a little plum and plain chocolate in support. Yum

2016 Château Langoa Barton
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Blackcurrant, plums are joined by a little red currant, cream, vanilla, caramel, a little milk chocolate, cedar, very slight tobacco leaf. Medium plus intensity acidity, juicy, fleshy, lashings of wonderfully grippy drying tannins. Tending to wild blackcurrant freshness. Really lovely tonight. My on again off again affair with Langoa continues - this is very much 'on'

2016 Ségla
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Ripe plummy fruit, a little red berry fruit, cream, sweet spice, quite rich nose, polished oak. Juicy, fleshy, chalky tannins, fruit plays second fiddle to the tannins, a little red and plummy fruit. Meh for me.

2016 Croix Canon
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Plummy, ripe, concentrated, savoury notes; slightly meaty, plenty of spice, some derived from alcohol, handles it's plentiful oak well. Juicy, ripe plummy fruit then lashings of chalky and woody drying tannins that prove tight and close down the palate leaving a whisper of ripe plummy fruit, vanilla and a fair lick of alcohol. Not for me.

2016 Château de Sales
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Slightly funky and farty plummy fruit, sweet spice, slightly spirituous alcohol prickle, polished oak. There is, with time and agitation, a little red berry red plum freshness. In the mouth it's plummy and a little porty, ripe, rich, woody tannins are integrated offering a slightly "stavey" grip. Finishes a little hard and bitter. Meh

2011 Château Suduiraut
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Aromas of orange marmalade, sweet spice, vanilla, a little almost saline underpin. Touch of apricot compote, slight wood glue note. Juicy acidity, orange marmalade, a little woody textured burr, touch of bitter orange, slight clementine, mandarin and tangerine notes. Long. Rather pleasant and charming.
