Pale straw. Fresh, limey, floral with lovely restrained white fruit. Beautifully elegant with a nicely reductive gun flint undertone. Quite lean and elegant for the vintage. This restores faith. Classic Leflaive hazelnut nose develops with air. Really very lovely. Village weight and length, but top villages. ****

Light mid to old gold. Gives the impression of being quite evolved. Rich nose, a touch of aldehyde but mainly about the beurre noisette initially. Rich and chewy in an almost visceral style. Similar to previous bottles but not given the chance to clean up and open up. Should have opened yesterday, but ultimately the wrong bottle for the occasion. ** only on the night.

  • 2009 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay Vendanges Sélectionnées 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay

Mid ruby. Just starting to hint at garnet. Similar familial nose to the 05 but with more red fruit and lift. A slightly meaty edge to the developing sous bois with some redcurrant and cherry. A nod to redder fruit, definition and more line here. Peony on the nose with air. Rustic would be harsh, but not a suave and sophisticated number, maybe lacking a little generosity of spirit. ***

Ever so slightly cloudy mid garnet. A touch high toned. Some sous bois. The acidity feels a little prominent. Quite floral with time against the farmyardy backdrop. Still a sense of tannin on the finish. Somewhat discombobulated currently. ***
