Grapes are one third each of pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier from about 3 dozen Grand Cru or Premium Cru vineyards. 40-50 % of reserve wines from previous years. 3 years on the lees.
Wasn't sure about the high dosage (9 g/l) but it helps balancing the rather high acidity. There is some freshness from Chardonnay (apricot, lemon), ripe fruits from Pinot, brioche, and smokey minerals. Better than your average NV Champagne, trying to close the gap to NV from Bollinger, Roederer et al. Suckling and Falstaff rated this 93p.

Village Burgundy from Good Producers (67 Pall M): Lemon Barely Water on the nose with some sourdough breadcrumbs and some lovely slatey minerality. With air a little lime oil. Palate very agreeable nice but not overpowering acidity and my kind of dosage.

Jason's Village Burgundies II (67 Pall Mall): Pale medium gold with a very fine mousse that isn't especially visible in the glass, but this is lovely and spritzy on entry and really very classical in nature. A dollop of fresh-baked dough and pressed apple juice. The extra time in bottle, c4 years, has allowed this to round out and it's got a nice weight to it whilst retaining lift. A good start before the main event.

Village Burgundy: Three to four years extra cellaring. Mid gold. Quite rich and broad on the nose. Mellow. Some edge on the finish. Decent, and better than previous examples of this. ***

Solid champ, much better than the bottle of Bollinger NV I opened on NYE. This wine isn't much more complex but it is so much leaner and lively than the Bollinger, not as rich/dossed/ripe. This Deutz was full of tension.

Rich and ripe with enough restraint. Perhaps no fireworks but as a 'house' Champagne this would be a cracker - straightforwardly delicious and satisfying

From Methuselah. The nose shows fresh aromas of orchard fruits, minerals, pastry cream and cherry blossom. This is medium light bodied on the palate with very good concentration and excellent class. The medium plus length finish features good acid cut.

Very classic Champagne. A universally pleasing style and consistency in terms of balance and texture. For those seeking adventure or special occasion, this will be a bore. But it was great with our afternoon charcuterie board and my impression is it can age for quite some time, no problem.

We drank this from plastic wine glasses at the Lyndhurst Mansion Jazz at Sunset concert because it was my wife's birthday. Nice well-made NV. Much better than, for example, the ubiquitous Veuve Yellow Label, which we all know is really orange. My personal preference is for yeastier, more hedonistic champagnes, while this was a bit more austere with lemon citrus and tart white fruit, but still very enjoyable. It was brutally not outside, even at 6 pm, so this warmed up a bit faster than perhaps would have been best, but DO NOT serve it ice cold - it will kill the aromatics. Slightly warmer than I would like - it was perhaps a bit over 50 degrees - was fine and better than murdering it in an ice bucket.
Someone on CT reports 9 gms dosage. That is a surprise. I would have guessed a little less, but excellent balancer nonetheless. I am not a 0 dosage kind of guy.

(Disgorged in June 2022, base year 2019, 1/3 of Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay, dosage 7 gr/L) Light yellow colour with a reddish hue and with a youthful nose showing freshly baked bread and cream, fruity notes of yellow apples and some minerals in lovely way. Very fruitful palate with yellow apples and a pleasant creamy touch on the mid before the fruitiness takes over on the pleasant finish also showing some bitterness. Easy drinking and pleasant as an aperitif in the sun. (Probably best with 0-5 years extra cellaring)

Very drinkable NV fizz from Deutz. Lemon, apple and butter flavours. Quite high dosage gives it a slightly sweet, almost lemon sherbert, finish. This bottle disgorged 2021.

Well balanced NV brut champagne from a 2nd tier house. Fruit, apple, pear and citrus on the nose, a touch of yeast and cheese. Palate is tasty in a Prosecco sweet acid sort of way but I find it lacks serious structure. 1-2 glasses is about it for me before it becomes cloying.

Drank as an aperitif before a tasting. This ticked the right boxes and was slightly better than the Brinoncourt served as an aperitif at a prior tasting. High effervescence. Refreshing. On the lean side with some toasted apple and citrus notes. 89+

Provning för Paliro (Palrio, Kungsgatan): (Disgorged in July 2010, base year 2007, 40% Pinot Noir, 30% Meunier and 30% Chardonnay) Maturing nose showing grapefruit and yellow apples in a pleasant way opening up with minerals and hints of chocolate in a delicious way. Nice and smooth on the palate with yellow apples acidity and with a soft creamy mid and a pleasant grapefruit peel bitterness on the finish. (Still very youthful with 10+ extra years of cellaring)

I have enjoyed the vintage and Bdb of this producer, but this was my first NV brut. Amazing QPR here in EU, I am not sure I could find it under 50 at home. Drinks well above its price point a really nice champagne with flavors and aromas of citrus and brioche that just jump out of the glass.
Medium lemon color. Beautiful aromas of toast, lemon, ripe green apple and pear. Mousse was creamy. On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium body, medium alcohol (12.0%), delicious green apple, pear, lemon and toast. I feel it is great now and could age longer as well. Would buy again, very good quality. Bought from wine.com for $55. Mostly due to positive ratings and description.

Pink tinged, and there's some pretty red fruits in this. Two years at least since disgorgement, but it's still young and fresh. Just the right amount of richness and grip.

Really enjoyed this bottle (disgorgement date 2022, base vintage therefore 2019). I have the feeling that this is a little young and would improve with a year’s cellaring but very enjoyable already.

A private pre-Christmas Lunch with Friends: Magnum. Purchased in 2017. The larger format and five years of post disgorgement ageing really show. Creamy and silky, seamless texture, spicy Pinot Noir, playful orchard fruit, apple and citrus, perfectly integrated mousse, flowing with gentle bitters, firm but harmonious acidity, elegant weight and minerality, complete finish with very good length. A transcendent NV.

French road trip, mainly Rhône valley; 9/4/2022-9/18/2022: From 75cl, by the glass at Auberge du Cep*, Fleurie at the truly ridiculous price of 16 EUR/10cl. Pleasant, dry, understated-to-totally-nondescript, inoffensive. Tiny bubbles. Very much in the mould of a "gastronomic" Grande Marque N.V. this is definitely not made for those seeking distinctiveness, concentration, varietal characteristics or hoping for a "wine" instead of a neutral-tasting, alcoholic, celebratory drink. Even though it's better than Moet NV, not as sickly-sweet as Ruinart NV, and purer than some other widely distributed GM NVs I see in supermarkets, I can only recommend gathering up courage to experiment with grower Champagne selected by a reliable wine merchant, a ""smaller" Marque (e.g. Gosset?) or one with a more distinctive character (e.g. Bollinger?) Indeed, there are truly satisfying wines out there at this price point (Vilmart? Bara? Diebolt Vallois? Or dozens of others?) 86P

12% alcohol; opened at 8 pm on board the Carnival Pride, leaving Le Havre, put in the fridge and tasted 9/4/2022 at 11 am, 15 hours later; composite cork with an aroma of sweetness/cork, moderate pop, numerous medium-size bubbles; nose of candy paste, butterscotch, alcohol; full bodied, long, light mouthfeel, tasted at ca 15 degrees C; medium finish with a grapey, minerally receding taste, good balance of components; tangy, refreshing, with sourness persisting; good depth compelling the tongue to perform its own Fourier analysis; pair with cheese, nuts, other hors d'oeuvres

This Magic Moment, Sweeter than Wine, Softer than a Summer's Nite; 7/29/2022-8/23/2022 (Alicante - España): First of all this has been one of the biggest infanticide I have committed at least in champagne terms. According to my taste this classic bottle should be a beauty in seven years or so. That said today it shows with a pale cloudy colour, small fine bubble, plenty of notes of tangerines and beech wood smoke on the nose. Elegant and evocative. On the palate I liked it's honeyed density, gentle acid and pretty dry finish for what it is. Always loved it's stylish, distinctive bottle. Bubbles are for summer time.

Light golden yellow with sift notes of warmed brioche, shortbread and citrus - touch blossom. A soft, creamy entry with lemon-cream biscuits, lightly toasted bread, this is a very approachable wine that has a thread of lively, constant acid and a velvety sheen. Enjoyable NV ,classic with a firstly lengthy close showing finely crushed oatmeal. Not super complex and challenging but pleasant easy to drink champagne.

At this humble price point of barely over USD 50 it is hard if not impossible to find Champagne with such pedigree, great lemon zest acidity and fine bubbles.
Finish was a smidgen short on this occassion but perhaps that was contributed by the difficult logistics (and temperature variation) to bring our many bottles to the staycation home fridge on the lower basement!
Bottle 11 of 23, at our Genting Sempah early birthday celebration, wonderful time with E and Z, SL and SC, JY and A as well as M and J.

Vraiment bon !

From a split bottle bought at Maison Deutz in Ay one week ago. Base vintage is 2018 and the disgorgement about six months ago. I think there must have been a slight change in style over the last couple of years as I remember this cuvée being more about dried fruit while today's bottle was all about fresh fruit. Citrus, but also some red fruits, all presented in a very pure, precise and lively way. It is solely aged in steel and that's how it feels. There is good chalky minerality and a touch of brioche lending the typical champagne character. While the dosage seems healthy, the wine does not come across as overly sweet, instead it's a classic expression of champagne, not striving for (modern) austerity but a balance between terroir and fruity generosity.

Served from a double-magnum (ie. a 3 liter-bottle). A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, roughly 1/3 each, vinified in stainless steel. The amount of reserve wines (20-45%) depends on the base vintage - which is unknown for this particular bottle. Aged for approximately 3 years before disgorging. This particular bottle was purchased in mid-2010's and kept in a cellar since, so most likely the base vintage is from the early 2010's - but it's possible the wine is much older due to the atypically large format.
Medium-deep lemon-yellow color. Very rich, somewhat evolved and attractively toasty nose with complex aromas of roasted nuts and cooked cream, some leesy notes of autolysis, a little bit of ripe zesty citrus fruits, light bruised apple nuances and a hint of oven-fresh brioche. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and quite crunchy on the palate with somewhat evolved flavors of bruised apple, roasted pine nuts, a little bit of toasted bread with butter, some steely mineral notes, light autolytic notes of brioche, a sweeter hint of dosage reminding me of apple jam and touch of marzipan. Bright, high acidity and a very smooth and silky mousse. The finish is dry, long and quite toasty with flavors of steely minerality, some mealy red apple, light nutty notes of chopped hazelnuts, a little bit of marzipan, a hint of creamy richness and an autolytic touch of toasted bread.
A wonderfully evolved and toasty NV Champagne with great sense of balance and developed complexity. I was surprised to learn that the wine was purchased only 6-8 years ago, since it felt somewhat more mature - basically something I'd expect from a 20-yo Champagne. However, seeing how these large-format bottles can be aged for much longer than the regular-sized bottles before release and they might stay for much longer in places of retail before they are sold, it's certainly possible this wine is much older than I initially expected. Nevertheless, this performed miles better than any of the Deutz Brut Classic bottles I've had; normally I've considered Brut Classic to be a correct, pleasant NV Champagne without much depth or character. However, this was as toasty and complex as I want my Champagnes to be, at the same time showing great sense of freshness, precision and minerality. A terrific showing of this label and a good reminder that one really should age these entry-level NV bottles as well!

A private dinner (Restaurant De Lage Vuursche, Lage Vuursche, NL): Always reliable and good value. Went very well with "Zeeuwse platte" oysters - the classical dosage of 9 gr/l brings out the citrus and apple fruit, and avoids the stony and metallic experience which extra brut or (especially) brut nature can give with oysters.

Deutz's nonvintage Brut Classic typically contains equal amounts of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. The identifying data for this recently purchased bottle is located on the upper foil, with one line specified as "125876" and the second line (immediately below) specifying "LC121D05020". Light golden in color, it sports a brisk small bead and an aromatic profile of honeycrisp apples, Meyer lemons, toasted bread and cardamom. Medium-bodied, crisply acidic and with an energetic mouthfeel, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, adding hints of shaved nutmeg. Solid on the mid-palate and medium in length on the back end, this is a very enjoyable nonvintage sparkler that should provide pleasure over the next 2-3 years. Drink now-2025.

A final, dusty , orphan half- bottle to toast the New Year. Non- Vintage....could have sat here for 5- 6 years. On nose:crisp water biscuits, and a note of crab apple jelly..... On palae: a stronger expression of the above flavours ,with lively yeast, lemon peel, blanched almonds, and a nice stony, mineral underpinning ....in a good place, has character, unlike the overproduced Veuve- Cliquot ... Fine, velvety mousse....may age further for a few years...but why wait?

A refreshing kick off and start to our Christmas Dinner this 2021 here in Macallister Mansion, Penang.
Found the Magnums to be even more luscious, but the regular 750ml bottles had typically citrus, lemon and grapefruit notes in abundance, and best of all there was refinement in the fine bubbles.
Served at the perfect cold temperature, in beautiful champagne fruits.. this was decadent in the beautiful dining room at Blanc with Chef Henry's creations.

Pale gold with nice tight bead. Some yeast notes on the nose, but what strikes most is a minerality that carries through onto the palate. It’s a brut, certainly, but not in the puckering style of chardonnay-dominant bubbles. Quite a complex array of flavours, with apple and almond, the latter giving hints of marzipan too. Nicely balanced, subtle, with a lingering finish. Very good indeed for an NV champagne.

From 75cl, no disgorgement date, just an incomprehensible bit of computer code as noted on CT by benny-g on 18.06.2021. Coarse bubbles, wine went distinctly flat after 30 minutes in the glass—OK for Pepsi, not so great for Champagne. Any distinctive character—as noted in multiple CT TNs below, and with less tact, style, and higher ratings by the Usual Suspects in the professional wine press—is smothered by the dosage. This is a decent Grande Marque NV, better than Pommery and Moet, less sickly-sweet than Ruinart, not (of course) up there with Bollinger, let alone Krug. But after a decade of buying, cellaring and drinking grower Champagne in the 20–40 EUR price range I never cease to be gobsmacked by the sheer mediocrity of the wine sold as NV by the familiar brands, not to mention the sheer depths of cynical avarice displayed by the wine press (including, alas the otherwise imperturbable Hugh Johnson) in conveniently forgetting that they should be serving the vast majority of consumers who buy NV, not the 100 EUR+/75cl prestige bottlings they presumably get bribed with to write their puffs. I don't doubt that the "Cuvée William Deutz" is a very good wine indeed, but this sugary confection in no way justifies its 40 EUR price tag. 85-86P

A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, roughly 1/3 each, vinified in stainless steel. The amount of reserve wines (20-45%) depends on the base vintage. Aged for approximately 3 years before disgorging. This particular bottle was aged for 3-4 in a cellar after purchase. 12% alcohol.
Quite youthful yellow-green color. Waxy and slightly sweet-toned nose with aromas of ripe Golden Delicious apple, some juicy lemon-driven citrus fruit notes, a little bit of yeast, light bready notes of autolysis and a slightly developed hint of something woolly. The wine is dry, crisp and rather juicy on the palate with a medium body and flavors of ripe citrus fruits, yeasty autolysis, some juicy apple-driven fruit, a little bit of bread or brioche, light sweeter notes of white peach and a hint of slivered almonds. High in acidity with a crisp and rather sharp yet somewhat sparse mousse. The finish is dry, quite broad and moderately long with quite mouth-cleansing flavors of ripe citrus fruits and white peach, some yeasty notes of French bread, light nutty notes of slivered almonds and a hint of tangy salinity.
A balanced and pretty classic textbook NV Champagne, but ultimately it is a rather predictable effort with nothing particularly memorable. It seems 3-4 years in a cellar had done very little to the wine, as it drunk like a young, un-aged Champagne - perhaps +10 years of aging might have brought something of interest to the wine. A nice little fizz, but also rather forgettable. While there is nothing to complain here, this really isn't a Champagne I'd first reach out for if there were alternatives.

Retail $50. 38% Pinot Noir, 32% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay. From Aÿ, one of the best towns in Champagne, known for its Pinot. I have had a bit of Deutz, but not a ton, so I am far from an expert, but this is tasty. Fairly dark in the glass with aromas of baked pear, tart satin, and freshly baked croissant. The palate is rich and full with plenty of fruit and oodles of yeasty goodness. Yowza. Very close to a Whoa.
shared this bottle with pat at selkirk manor. celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary. paired with seafood medley. shrimp, lobster and smoked oysters. this bottle was purchased approximately six years ago. last two digits of number on foil are 17. so, i am advised that this implies a disgorgement date of 2014 which is consistent with my purchase date. lost track of this bottle when CT crashed a few years ago. rediscovered the bottle when doing a physical inventory in september of 2020. the cork was extracted a little too easily even though the bottle had been stored on it's side so it should not have shrunk. perhaps as a result of this, the bottle showed a faint hint of oxidation. not sufficient to ruin the tasting experience. light gold color. fresh nose. ample fine and persistent bubbles. lots of yeast and dough which i favor when drinking champagne. a range of stone fruit flavors including peach. some nuttiness. thoroughly enjoyed.

Designated as 'Brut Classic', this is indeed the correct epithet for this classic champagne. Beautifully balanced between fruity and lees flavours, it is exactly what one could expect. The fruit is the yellow stone type with a red berry twitch. The maturing on the lees provides mainly vanilla and freshly baked bread components. Towards the finish these all integrate nicely into what I cant but call a pinot character. No apparent disgorgement date on the bottle; maybe the 'LB119D25518.25' indication on the neck lable means something in that respect?

A pale appearance properly foreshadows pale, youthful fruit of green pear skin, tart lemon citrus with subtle yeast and white pepper aromatics. Light to medium-bodied flavors that are primary, fresh and pleasant. This particular bottle should develop a bit more within the next few years. Fresh/clean style.

(Disgorged in September 2017, base year 2014, 40% Pinot Noir, 30% Meunier and 30% Chardonnay) Light yellow colour with an endless stream of very fine bubbles and with a lovely maturing nose showing fresh bread, yeast and citrus flowers and some flint stone in a very pleasant way. Palate with yellow apples acidity and a nice creaminess on the mid before a lasting finish showing zesty bitterness. Nice development with some extra post disgorgement time, but this should probably reward even further cellaring. (Probably best with 4-8 years of extra cellaring)

Well I will be darned aging this bottle in the wine cellar really helped this champagne. Gone is the nail polish aspect replaced by clean Chardonnay flavors. The bubbles last as long as you would expect for a wine at this price. Speaking of price this champagne is perfect for opening when you really do not want to open an expensive bubbly or is great as a gift to those that are not serious champagne aficionados. Cheers-Dave

I was quite disappointed with this. Had after a Moet and a Veuve Cliqout and this just came across as a much simpler and less complex champagne. It was quite light and refreshing, but there was just too much sweetness for our liking. If you prefer higher dosage levels then you would likely enjoy this, but I personally didn't. I wouldn't buy this again.

This has long been one of our favorite Champagnes and this bottle was a delicious start to Thanksgiving dinner. Crisp, apples, citrus, yeast, nice finish. I don’t understand why the community ratings aren’t higher. Everything you could want in a Champagne and an exceptional value from Garagiste.
This was a good price from Garagiste at just under $30. The Champagne is a good value, too. It doesn't really stand out, but it's also hard to fault it that much for what it is. Quite quaffable.

Nice Champagne, and good QPR. Caveat - a rounder, fuller, somewhat generous style, rather than very mineral and bone dry. I assume there is a relatively high dosage. Yeasty, toasted brioche, and some citrus and orchard fruits notes. I personally would have enjoyed a little bit more acidity and minerality, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

After a 15+ minutes in the glass (after the exuberant effervescence calmed down) this was a really nice straightforward champagne. No bitterness in the after taste, which is a problem I’ve noted with similar priced bottles, but also not tons of complexity either.

Guests from Wellington arrive (Wanaka Wedge House, Queensberry, Central Otago, New Zealand): Really impressive showing for this bottle. Extensively bottle aged in a home cellar and served very cold, the wine's poise, clarity and balance were standout aspects. The aged character added wonderful dimension to the wine, but in no way did the wine come across as tired or over-cellared. Gorgeous sweetness to the fruit, and the ripeness, allied to the acid cut gave this bottle total finesse.... 92-93

(Disgorged in May 2019, base year 2016) Light yellow colour with an explosion on the nose showing red berries, citrus flowers and minerals in a very pleasant, but youthful way. Still very youthful palate dominated by Granny Smith apples at first with a nice creaminess on the mid and transforms with red grapefruit bitterness on the long lasting finish. This is very good and should reward further cellaring to allow it to open up more, right now it’s a bit too tight for my palate. (Best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

The medium-bodied champagne was light gold in colour, with fine, medium-intense perlage. It offerred citrus, green apple, nuts and brioche notes on the nose and palate, with fine, creamy mousse, lively acidity and very good length. Not the most characterful or complex, but balanced and long. Pleasant.

Fresh apples acidity on the palate with a nice and structured finish showing a nice bitterness that balance the fruitiness in a good way. Very lovely with some extra cellar time this has opened up with some maturity in a very nice way. Best with 1-6 years extra cellaring

Binny's champagne tasting scrum: difficult to assess any wines under the conditions but I thought the Deutz stood out: crisp, slightly nutty, earthy, medium-full bodied, fleshy.

Verkligen publikinfriande. Bra balans mellan ungdom och utveckling. Fick blintbochbtrodde definitivt att det var något ”mer anmärkningsvärt” även om jag var ganska säker på att det var Deutz

2019 MW Champagne Tasting, nose of yeast, toast, and apple, more of the same on the palate, medium body, good acid, good stuffing, tasty, touch simple, needs 4 years to peak in my opinion, and a medium/long finish.

Fully concur with 12/12/2018 - T.E.D. WROTE: 91 Points Da deutzzzzzzz . . . Always delivers a fine balance between tart golden apple and toasty notes. Good mouth feel. Again for $35 bucks on sale a steal. With fresh smoked trout on Lone Pine Creek with Doug.

The nose is classic and forward with biscuits, pears, white fruits, apples, flowers, almonds, pastry notes, and baking spices. The Medium bodied feel is balanced with crisp, high acidity. This is a good NV champagne that shows off good balance across the nose and palate. It lacks some depth in the same places and is easy to drink.

Another enjoyable bottle. As before, lemon, croissant, and apple aromas and flavors. Before I had mentioned green apple in tasting notes but this time I found a distinct red apple note.

Degorgement in april 2018. A very reliable champagne among the large brands. And an impressive one as well with a beautiful light golden hue and strong aromas of dried fruits and brioche. Combined with a fine perlage and a slightly elevated dosage this is a more baroque expression of champagne, I dare to say a poor man's Krug. Recommended!

Bon BSA, avec la finesse dont la maison a le secret, et une touche de l'élégance des grosses cuvées. Mais reste qu'il est trop dosé pour moi. Encore ? Non, je préfères économiser et me payer la cuvée William.

Annual Piemonte Trip - 2018 Edition; 10/12/2018-10/14/2018 (Piemonte, Italy): From Magnum. A very good all rounder champagne and definitely better from magnum than from bottle as its adds to its star factor. Good presence, vibrant and spirited with good apple touches, light citrus and just an edge of a yeasty side. 90 and a good all rounder

Affordable Champagne for Summer; 8/1/2018-9/2/2018 (España - Spain): Playing in a superior league. Leaving in the mouth a very elegant sensation because its silky texture with some smoky notes and a fine bubble. A backbone defined by Pinot noir. Persistent and balanced. On the nose needs a previous aeration in order to show those memories of tangerines and smoked bacon. What a combination from a discrete maison for less than 40€. Dosage: 9,9 g/l

Agreeing with other tasters. The qpr is outstanding here. Nose shows hints of Apple, toast and slate. Palate shows some toasty richness, following by a good a well structured mineral and white fruit elements. Some hints of ox in the finish. Very well made.

A private dinner with friends (at home): From a half case bought in December 2017 but not finished during the festive season. Only cuvée is used (which is rarer than you might think), with approximately 40% vin de réserve. As so often with Grande Marque NV's, this has benefited from the extra post-disgorgement ageing. Toast and apple aromas, marries intensity and finesse, energetic and with a lovely complexity on the palate, very good length. Top-notch NV.

Wine-pages Glasgow Festival of Wine Pre Offline (Cail Bruich, Glasgow): Bready rather than toasty on the nose, which has quite a concentrated, almost viognier-like fruit character. (Obviously, there's no viognier it, before anyone takes me too literally, just that sort of concentrated, lifted character.) Open and full flavoured, Quite rich and full. Great length. Much more rustic than Taittinger 2008 tasted alongside.

Family wedding in IOW. Limited notes. Not come across since '13 but showing similar character as per my note then. Crisp apple with citrus tones and focussed acid backbone. Good mousse. Refreshing and youthful feel. Good function champagne if not particularly memorable. Another year or so in bottle might help this batch to broaden out.

(Probably from the 1980’s) Lovely deep golden colour with a nice push of the cork when removing the cork and revealing a fresh and very nice mature nose showing chocolate, plums and coffee. Still fresh on the palate with mature red fruit and plums at first, before a lovely creamy middle and a nice long and smooth lime bitterness takes over in the lovely finish. This was a very good showing, just typical I could only source one single bottle where this came from...

(Disgorged in 2006, base year 2003) Lovely yellow colour with a stream of bubbles not showing any sign of age. At first a very youthful nose showing dough, minerals and butterscotch and an intense palate with lots of red apples and a very nice and red grapefruit bitterness on the long lasting finish and some saltiness on the lips. Youthful and nice at first, but with half an hour in the glass it transforms showing much more maturity with dark chocolate, nuts and a touch of lighter citrus notes. The fruit is starting to dry, but the dosage made it very well composed this evening. Wow! This was a perfect showing of how a non-vintage champagne can evolve into perfection with extra cellar time, in this case about fifteen years or so. Will last for another decade, but will be hard to wait much longer! Best with 3-15 years of extra cellaring.

Somehow I've never had Deutz champagne before, an oversight that had to be rectified. Pale lemon colour. Rather broad and approachable nose, citrus on the orange side, rather than lemon. Noticeably soft mousse (which I rarely find worth commenting on these days), and a very tight, rich but balanced core of fruit and acidity. Lime tanginess and a floral hint. This is good, and good value by modern standards. [Cork + cage; 12% abv; Amazon, £33.49].

A bottle that had been aged since 1997 by a friend; still perfumed in the nose and rather complex and mellow on the palate; overall, a successful aged bottle of NV champagne, 92-93 points.

NobleRottersSydney - Hunter Valley (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {cork, 12%} (Aaron) Youthful-smelling nose; peachy, almost banana-like aromas of medium intensity are fresh, an impression heightened by the minimal yeast character. The palate offers gentle tropical fruits with medium-sized bubbles, light/medium weight, and a generally lively, refreshing character. It sits a bit towards the front palate, and isn’t especially profound, and with a barely medium-length finish. Average champagne, not more.

No idea of disgorgement date, but this bottle was purchased in 2008. A fantastic bottle. Plenty of bubbles support a honeyed richness that shows the grace of age without seeming at all tired. Picked these up for $25 via auction, which makes this one of my better QPRs ever.

Love this for the price. Aromas of yellow apples, sea salt, biscuits and honey. Brisk but rich with lots of complex bready notes, crisp acidity, fresh minerals, saline, yellow apples and honeycomb. I really like this style, and it was a big hit with the wife with some homemade fish tacos.

Gourmetklubbens trettiotredje middag (Södermalm, Stockholm (P+A)): (Disgorged in January 2016) Incipient maturity on the nose showing hazelnuts, apple fruit and citrus. Still very youthful of course with a fresh acidity on the palate with a nice and long lasting bittersweet finish. It's been a while since last I tasted the NV from Deutz. This cuvée was really good with half a year of extra time after disgorgement and would probably evolve very nicely with another extra five years or so.

The best champagne is that you put in the cellar for quite a while and wait, no matter what brand it is, vintage or non-vintage. This is a good example. NV Deutz in the cellar for 2- 3 years and it turns out to be so seductive and with so many layers. Acidity, sweetness, yeast bubbling, anything you ask from a bottle of good champagne. Wonderful!
Lots of verve and energy on display. Delicate and floral aromas of key lime pie, brioche, watermelon rind, and minerals. Rich and creamy, tensile and vibrant, vivid and focused, this feels very full in the mouth. Juicy notes of citrus, quince, river rocks, and an exuberant bead flow into a long, smoke-tinged finish. Lovely juice.

Perfectly decent from plastic cups, but hard to evaluate under the circumstances.
Eventually the trains were all cancelled and we ended up spending another night in Paris courtesy of Ruinart/LVMH. Obviously we were devastated.

Itsy bitsy tiny bubbles. That went on for ever. Dry, almost dusty, that carried it across my palate like a cloud. Clean invigorating finish that left my mouth begging for another sip. Cellared for about 5 years after purchase. Worth the extra time time. I need to drink more of this stuff.

Enjoyed from magnum, always a solid choice. This one's been in the cellar at least three years and based on the narrowness of the cork has to have been around for 5-7 years. Still plenty of froth, mousse, fruit, and minerality. Slightly rounded but still enough acidity to hang on for a few more years. A solid QPR.

dinner with colleagues on a Monday night.; 9/21/2015-9/22/2015 (at our home): One of the best NV champagnes out there, midway between bready, full bodied and creamy style and more elegant and fresh - i.e. Balanced and lovely, with very fine yet vigorous mousse. I bought this several years ago and this was the last of the lot. There was some slight oxidation on the nose, but that is a plus for me. Toasty, biscuity, and yummy on the palate. Champagne producers claim that NV champagne does not get better after release, but for me, this is the perfect argument as to how NV can get better in the bottle. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

Aged for 5 years after bought. Faint yellow color. Small vigorous bubbles with a good release in the mouth. Bread and yeast aromas. Very bright mouth scrubbing acidity. Was one of the best wines with food, handling everything from ricotta pasta, to fresh mango fruit, to shrimp. Kept fine for days just putting the cork right back in after pouring. Fine example why Champagne is the most famous region for sparkling wines.

3rd Deals Gastronomy Fair; 3/29/2015-3/30/2015 (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens): Served from 3.0lt bottle The nose is clean but closed, toast notes like hazelnut are in the back, oak treatment supports rather than leads. The wine is dry, rich body with lemon/lime notes mainly, toast sits a bit uncomfortably in the middle when compared to 750ml and 1.5lt bottles, rich but fresh in the same time, citrus infused long finish. Outstanding quality, one to hold for sure and I have no doubt it will only get better with time, but for now only a step back to the 1.5lt.

3rd Deals Gastronomy Fair; 3/29/2015-3/30/2015 (Grande Bretagne Hotel, Athens): Served from 1.5lt bottle Nice clean nose with medium+ intensity, toast notes are more evident, hazelnut and almond, fruit is more exotic and ripe, then it goes back citrus and complex. The wine is dry, medium+ body, offers more complexity, the toast notes are more pronounced and so is the lemon. I’d rather have this with high intensity dishes like shellfish. It also feels less evolved than the 750ml bottle, feels more fresh, with time you get pineapple and citrus, the acidity keeps its place throughout, medium to long finish. Outstanding quality, a champagne to hold.

The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, nice acidity that works well to support the ripe lime, citrus and pineapple. Nice concentration while ending with a medium finish. Nice golden hay color and, frothy mousse on pour, and many miniscule bubbles. As soon as the cork was eased off the neck, yeasty aromatics sprang out of the bottle. The smells are butter, honey, pear, and tangerine. The tastes are pear, apple, honey, toast, lemon zest, and saline notes on the finish. The acidity is nice and this is a full bodied, hedonistic Champagne.

A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, roughly 1/3 each, vinified in stainless steel. The amount of reserve wines (20-45%) depends on the base vintage. Aged for approximately 3 years before disgorging.
Somewhat pale yellow-green color. Very shy and neutral nose exhibiting mainly aromas of vague appley fruit, a little bit of honeyed richness and an autolytic hint of almondy nuttiness. The wine is bright and crisp on the palate with flavors of red apples, ripe citrus fruits, some chalky minerality and a subtle hint of bready toast with the dosage showing through as a touch of apple jam. The wine is high in acidity with rich yet smooth and elegant mousse. The finish is firm but pleasantly rich with medium-long flavors of ripe apples, some spicy character, a little bit of citrus zest and a hint of autolytic brioche.
An easily approachable, sophisticated and pleasant Champagne that feels pretty much like a textbook NV: ripe yet zesty fruit, structured acidity, smooth and fine mousse and a touch of autolysis. The wine really doesn't go much beyond that, but at least it offers pretty much everything you look for in an entry-level Champ. Perhaps a bit pricey for the style at 50,20€.

Pear sorbet, lemon peel and red apples on the shy nose. On the palate there is some lemon juice, pears and honey melon. The wine is restrained and I don't get much from it. The style is very classic indeed, but the wine lacks complexity, fruit and minerals to get my attention. I was rather disappointed acctually at this price. Got beaten by Pierre Peters, Pol Roger and Piper Hiedsieck.
This one was walking the line between good bottle age and corkiness... In the end it landed too far on the mothball side to enjoy. Unknown provenance (bought 2nd hand) but was at least 5 years from purchase.

Had this right after a '04 Goutorbe Soecial Club. Unfair, this is a good, even a very good NV, but it just doesn't compare in this context. Completely undone, not bad in any way as a major house NV - but less character, less body, less acidity, less focus. More sulphite and more minerality, better mousse. However- it's still really good stuff.

Love the smell as it was being poured, very fragrant. The color is light gold and clear with a massive amount of tiny bubbles and the mousse seemed to dissipate pretty quickly on the pour. The smells are a combination of almonds, breadtoast, honey, apple, floral notes, and steely lemon. The tastes are lemon, apple, salinity, toast, spices, minerality, and citrus zest. The flavors are bold and there is some nice weight on this balanced by acidity with a finish that lingers for 45+ seconds. Charity dinner for Macmillan's. Probably unfair to judge after drinking the much fuller style of Canard Duchene Charles VII first. Yes-a high score but everything seemed right. At first nose was closed with some crisp features on the palate. The second glass 30 minutes later blossomed. The nose was simple stunning. Deep brisket breed dough nose with hints of almonds. The rich smells were intertwined with vanilla and oats. The palate was rich containing the same tastes as offered by the nose. Be advised I opened a bottle prior to this on New Years. Maybe that bottle did not have time to open-maybe I hit a magic bottle-but I sat with that second glass for fifteen minutes not wanting to miss any aspect of this champagne. Be advised those that enjoyed the wine that evening also prefer a style that sways away from the bright crisp side of champagne. Also not as acidic as other champagnes.

92p, FYND!

Pale yellow with a green ting. Nose of yellow apples, biscuit and summer flowers. Palate is fresh, lively acidity with green apples, tangerine peel and a hint of minerality. Beads are moderate to low, low mouse, and a very pleasant mouthfeel. Fresh! Very fresh - this bottle was degorged in November 2011, so I have reached the conclusion that the richness we experienced in the last two bottles was because it was simply to old! Very nice champagne, and along with Roederer and B-S the very best so far.
Perfect everyday champagne (375ml)... Hints of toast and hazlenut on the nose, along with tropical fruits. The mouthfeel is creamy, the bubbles fine. I wish I'd bought more!

Very nice golden color, medium beads. Nose of yeast, yellow apples and a smokey tint. Palate is bisquit and overripe yellow apples, moderate acidity and a slightly sweet entry. Lacks balanse, damaged bottle? Or to old?
CELEBRATING MINE AND JILL'S ENGAGEMENT IN SAN FRANCISCO! Lovely moderate full body and quite rich with fresh brioche, some underlying funk and a mineral core. Palate is balanced with nice acidity. A beautiful wine to enjoy with my new fiance. I love you Jill.

A good surprise, with a nice structure end length : the strong flavours of yellow spices, lemon, an old apple with a good bitterness makes it a very expressive champagne. but the bubbles could be improved. The "extra brut cuvée NV" is less interesting, still with fine bubbles, but to flat. Keep it for one more year to melt everything. Not a desert wine. Avoid the extra brut cuvée.

In a line-up of Deutz champagnes including the Blanc de Blancs, Rose, and 1999 Cuvee, I thought this might have been the strongest. This has a nice aromatic nose with good yeast and a reasonably long finish. This is a solid, entry-level champagne on par with other top houses.

A rich-medium-weight Champagne with a golden honey orange. On the nose strawberry-scented, carmel, floral and a slight citrus note. Tastes of peaches and apricots. Well-rounded and complex with the perfect amount of acidity. Not too dry flavor. Long, intensely fruity finish.

Worldwide Whites (Edina Country Club): Medium gold color. Drank 2 glasses over 30 minutes. Nose shows bread dough, yeast, slightly musty, apple, nutty, hint of berry. Palate adds chalk, citrus, good acid, green apple, minerals, yeast. A generally nice Champagne in the 89-90pt range. You could do a lot worse, and this is at a nice price point.

Very solid NV Champagne. Citrus, minerals, hint of cold butter and pineapple. Mousse on the frothy side but not overly so. This will age well for 5-7 years. On the downside the dosage seems too high.

Peach, pear and a hint of bottle-aged toast and mushroom. Crisp acidity without being sharp. Solid mid-palate density. A little stony, and respectable length.

Solid if a bit less than complex bottle of bubbles. My bottle had a few years of cellar age and developed nice mushroomy notes w/o sacrificing freshness.

Bright yellow/light gold colour, good mousse. In the nose citrus, yellow apples, white flowers, slightly biscuity, a slight herbal note and a hint of exotic fruit, honey, perfume and hazelnuts. The exotic fruit and herbal combination in the nose actually reminds me of some Pinot Meunier-dominated Champagnes, and I don't recall having this impression the last time I tasted a Deutz Classic. On the palate medium bodied, good acidity, yellow apples, some citrus and other yellow fruits, good minerality, a hint of nuts, rather long and pleasant aftertaste. The palate is less "exotic" than than the nose, and more "classic" and in line with what I expected.
From a bottle purchased approx. 1 year before opening.

An evening of Guigal La La's, Champagne and a few treats! (Scott & Jo's): What a really delicious way to start the evening. The nose has some Vernor's Soda and lots of baking bread. A slight burnt toast note as well. On the palate, this is full and round and drinks deliciously as an aperitif. Nice finish.

Great Champagne, excellent value. This bottle had several years of additional cellar time before drinking. Well integrated and sophistacted. Tart green apple, with some toast.

Not too tart green apple is still dominant. A touch of yeast and minerals. Rich, with good body. May improve over the next year, then hold for a couple more years.

A very tasty value pick for Champagne - a pleasing slightly toasty, slightly unctuous sparkler that doesn't break the bank. Not for those who crave high acid, but some funky earth on the nose lends some interest here. Hard to find a Champagne that offers this much at this price.

This showed a refined intense colour and offered a very fine and light bead both in the glass and in the mouth. Comes out with precise and balanced weight and intensity while still maintaining its fine degree of finesse. Yeasty with yellow fruit, some tropical hints and loads of fine citrus. Rebuy: yes.

Purchased over 2 years ago. Notes of lemon pulp, crushed sea shells, ginger, buckwheat, and asian pear. Clean and precise on the nose with a delicate, if slightly attenuated, palate. Some of its youthful energy and gas has receded but the wine has yet to turn the corner and display any aged honey notes. A bit flat and one-dimensional at this stage.

Nose is a bit creamy, but taste is dominated by grapefruit. Color is nice and the bubble is not too strong but steady. I am more a Bollinger and Krug fan but this is something to watch for. For this price range, can't ask for more if Champagne is the only choice.

As usual, this one was good. Plenty of toasty notes, a very fine bead with lots of it, and still with the yeasty, nutty flavors. For a $35-$45 champers, this is right in the running. I will always be happy to be served Deutz.

2010 K&L Annual Champagne Event (K&L San Francisco Store): K&L Champagne Tasting. Simple nose of yeast, red and green apples, more of the same on the palate, as a whole, greater and tastier than its peers at this price point by far, crisp, clean, and invigorating.

A correct, well made but careful and shy champagne.
The nose shows red apples, bitter orange and some cinnamon. The taste is in very good harmonic with nothing standing out. The mousse is nice and the finish fades out with a positive bitter touch.
I could serve this champagne to a starter or as an aperitif, gladly in wintertime. The whole wine faded out quite fast. Pop and pour is therefore recommended. 88-89 p.

Opens to yeast and apple fruit on the nose, which carry over the palate and then combine with some really impressive minerality. Good acidity, tight palate, crisp and impressive minerality. We both really enjoyed this, especially on this 98 degree day in NYC.

My last older bottle of the Deutz Brut Classic. This wine has been in bottle for 8-10 years and is nice and mature. The colour is faded into light straw. The Champagne has a nice aroma of brioches and nuts. In the mouth it appears on the lighter side and still with a certain freshness. Lingering aftertaste of butterscotch.

Didn't start out tasting as good but, once I cleansed my palate, much better. Even better than the bottle on New Years' Eve. Drank before Dungeness crab dinner, and a little bit with dinner. Very good both ways. Not yet my favorite NV as compared to Veuve, but very close!

New Years' Eve - tasted good beginning at about 9pm and lasting to midnight. We didn't have champagne flutes so used relatively small tulip glasses, still tasted good! Quite complex with toasty, yeasty, hazlenut flavors.

Clear pale straw core of moderate intensity - good mousse and moderate stream of moderately sized bubbles. Deep nose of bread dough with a good deal of minerality, earthiness and some light citrus - moderately intense nose. Dry with rich and dense (a bit of oxidation) on the palate - malolatic here?. Good length on the finish with the citrus and minerals continuing. Tasty and pleasant but just very good - I was expecting more from Deutz.

Poured a light straw color, sharp at first but quickly came into balance and continued to open up in the hour it took us to drink this. Green apple, citrus zest, some touches of white chocolate and is that nutmeg in the very faint background? Extremely elegant and a joy to drink. Everything I could ask for from NV Champers.

Part of a tasting of different well known NV champagnes, (this, Veuve Cliquot Brut and a Lanson Rose Brut). The breadyness, full bodied and fresh flavour and mellow citric aftertaste scored full points with all at the table. A clear winner.

champagne night (binny's highland park): nose: very crisp nose with lemons, apples, citrus tones, baking spices, and a good helping of minerals. Well defined and enjoyable with medium depth
taste: fuller feel with lemons, apples, baking spices, and minerals. medium acidity binds this with good effervescance and puts it well in balance
overall: Good full feel and crispness. Well defined and fat, this is an excellent NV and is extremely enjoyable

Compared with other NV Champagne at this price point I have to be much more charitable than some previous reviews. There was a nice balance of the crisp, lite style that you find with Vieuve Clicqot, but with more bready richness. Went well as an apertif and moved comfortably into a first couse with tomato soup and cheese.

Pretty good house Champagne. Pale straw in color, this sparkler is done more in the floral, apple blossom, and citrus camp, with a little toastiness on the finish. Nice, crisp, and complex enough to keep my attention (which many NV house cuvees don't do), it was a great way to welcome some out-of-town guests who have a growing interest in wine and a particular enjoyment for Champagne. I picked this up for $30 and feel like I got a good bang for my buck.

Big lemon citrus flavors, tart, decent mousse, but Deutz and I did not fall in love. By itself it wasn't really working, but w/ Elisabeth's strata w/ prosciutto & rosemary bread, it paired well. The saltiness of the ham made this work. At around $40, I will not buy again.

Palm Springs: Same wine I bought for Dad for the people that found his watch! A very good, solid, standard Brut: nice yeast notes, some good citrusy notes and hint sourdough; good bod and average bubbles. I would not get it again, though. Possible an 88 like above!

I get the same lemon and yeast that others have found, but I like this stuff less than the average score here. It has a cream-soda style, much like certain California sparklers do (and I'm not partial to those, either). There's a chalkiness and minerality here that keeps things interesting, but the finish is a bit bitter and I don't find a lot of elegance anywhere. It's rather disappointing overall, especially given how much I thoroughly enjoyed the '98 BdB from these guys.

Nice easy drinking champers but I was expection more based on reviews and the name. A bit harsh on the nose when first poured with not much complexity( i was hoping for some biscuit and brioche notes). Once the chill wore off then some fruit showed up. Mild aromas of cherry from the pinot no doubt. Quality in line with the price but I would galdly pay $10 more for something quite a bit better.

Deutz is one of the most respected names in Champagne and was founded in 1838 by Prussian immigrants William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann. The estate was one of the founding members of the Syndicat des Grandes Marques and is located on the slopes of the famous vineyards of Aÿ. Total production is 2 million bottles per year. All of the grapes for their wine are either produced from the own vineyards or hand selected from highly regarded neighboring vineyards. This wine had fine bubbles and a crystal clear color with only the slightest yellow tinge. It had a fantastic aroma of vanilla and hazelnut. This was a rich and elegant sparkler with notes of pear and citrus. Excellent balance between sweetness and compexity and structure. Nice long clean finish. 90-91 points.

A dollop of fresh-baked dough and pressed apple juice. The extra time in bottle, c4 years, has allowed this to round out and it's got a nice weight to it whilst retaining lift.

Maturing nose showing grapefruit and yellow apples in a pleasant way opening up with minerals and hints of chocolate in a delicious way. Nice and smooth on the palate with yellow apples acidity and with a soft creamy mid and a pleasant grapefruit peel bitterness on the finish.

A soft, creamy entry with lemon-cream biscuits, lightly toasted bread, this is a very approachable wine that has a thread of lively, constant acid and a velvety sheen.

An entry-level of champagne that has fruity and fresh apple pear lemon lime on note.
A little bit of bread or dough, almost none of brioche or biscuit
Dry, high acidity, and bubble is quite manly (not smooth or velvet-like)

A pale appearance properly foreshadows pale, youthful fruit of green pear skin, tart lemon citrus with subtle yeast and white pepper aromatics. Light to medium-bodied flavors that are primary, fresh and pleasant. This particular bottle should develop a bit more within the next few years. Fresh/clean style.

(Disgorged in September 2017, base year 2014, 40% Pinot Noir, 30% Meunier and 30% Chardonnay)
Light yellow colour with an endless stream of very fine bubbles and with a lovely maturing nose showing fresh bread, yeast and citrus flowers and some flint stone in a very pleasant way. Palate with yellow apples acidity and a nice creaminess on the mid before a lasting finish showing zesty bitterness. Nice development with some extra post disgorgement time, but this should probably reward even further cellaring.
(Probably best with 4-8 years of extra cellaring)

Medium straw, slight green at the edges.
Reductive notes upon initial opening.
Once this blows off, notes of lemon oil, camomile, green apple, hint of honeysuckle, chalk. Lots of chalk. So much chalk.
On the palate are notes of green apple skin, lemon peel, and more chalk. The yeasty notes are not in your face. Definitely playing second fiddle here.
Medium minus alcohol, medium acidity, medium minus body, dosage is 9g/L but the bright acidity hides this nicely and there’s a good balance here.
This Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier blend seems to accentuate the Chardonnay the most. Only in the finish do I get stronger PN/PM notes.
Solid champagne for under $40. If you like champagne with driving minerality and loads of chalk, this is a good pick.

Extensively bottle aged in a home cellar and served very cold, the wine's poise, clarity and balance were standout aspects. Gorgeous sweetness to the fruit, and the ripeness, allied to the acid cut gave this bottle total finesse.... 92-93

Light yellow colour with an explosion on the nose showing red berries, citrus flowers and minerals in a very pleasant, but youthful way. Still very youthful palate dominated by Granny Smith apples at first with a nice creaminess on the mid and transforms with red grapefruit bitterness on the long lasting finish. This is very good and should reward further cellaring to allow it to open up more, right now it’s a bit too tight for my palate.

(Obviously, there's no viognier it, before anyone takes me too literally, just that sort of concentrated, lifted character.)
Open and full flavoured, Quite rich and full.

Lovely deep golden colour with a nice push of the cork when removing the cork and revealing a fresh and very nice mature nose showing chocolate, plums and coffee. Still fresh on the palate with mature red fruit and plums at first, before a lovely creamy middle and a nice long and smooth lime bitterness takes over in the lovely finish.
This was a very good showing, just typical I could only source one single bottle where this came from...

Lovely yellow colour with a stream of bubbles not showing any sign of age.

Wonderful!

Champagne producers claim that NV champagne does not get better after release, but for me, this is the perfect argument as to how NV can get better in the bottle. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

The nose is clean but closed, toast notes like hazelnut are in the back, oak treatment supports rather than leads.

Nice clean nose with medium+ intensity, toast notes are more evident, hazelnut and almond, fruit is more exotic and ripe, then it goes back citrus and complex.

Magnum pour la Saint-Sylvestre. Belle couleur or. Nez de brioche toastée. Bulles fines et relativement peu nombreuses. La couleur légèrement évoluée et l'absence relative de bulles me font penser que ce magnum avait quelques années de cave, impression confirmée par la bouche vineuse.

They say there are no great wines, just great bottes... this bottle may be one of "those"!

Tasting note

Beads are moderate to low, low mouse, and a very pleasant mouthfeel. Fresh! Very fresh - this bottle was degorged in November 2011, so I have reached the conclusion that the richness we experienced in the last two bottles was because it was simply to old! Very nice champagne, and along with Roederer and B-S the very best so far.
