Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2019 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Baronne 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Pretty consistent with my last bottle -- I'm a huge fan of the modern Lafon style. It's clean, bright, and minerally, and nary a hint of reduction. Oaky, to be sure, but good white Burgundy really ought to be. Clean white fruits, with a rich, powerful palate density. The style here is fantastic; the relative simplicity is probably a question of site.

  • 1996 Louis Jadot Clos St. Denis 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru

Négociant version. Solid, mature red Burgundy -- the way you want it to be. Autumnal and earthy, but with the 1996 acidity and maturing red fruit. Relatively light, and perhaps missing the density and power I would expect in a grand cru wine, but very delicious nonetheless.

  • 2020 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie 95 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Yet another fantastic young Jamet. Meeting the high expectations is becoming the norm for the estate. This is much lighter and lifted than the previous two iterations, and the fruit is more perfumed and showing more red-dominant. Brilliant fresh minerality and acidity on the palate. This shines like a ruby. As archetypal syrah and it comes, with spice, fruit, smoke, and meat. A must for the cellar.
