This was a blind tasting of 19 different 2001 Bordeaux. When we arrived at the tasting, each person was given a scorecard with the names of 26 different chateaus, so this was in essence single blind (19 of the 26 were present). Each person was asked simply to rank their top 5 wines.
To start off, three Bordeaux Blancs were poured non-blind.
Then we moved onto the blind tasting of the reds. It was a difficult format. One glass per person. One ounce pours or shorter. It was pretty tough to get a handle on the wines in hour under these conditions, and I think that shows pretty clearly in haphazard notes. In general, I scored the right bank wines higher given how much more approachable they were.
I think that Mark Squires says it best when he criticizes results from any sort of 'cattle call' tasting format as this. It is bascially impossible to really get a true impression of the wines.
