This is the third dinner in a series and we enjoyed it. The food was as good this time as the Burgundy event. The amuse of quail, lardons and cheese on a thin flatbread along with mussels and foie gras courses were terrific. I enjoyed the vast majority of these wines, but think I prefer more acid in my wines. Nothing was too sweet, so I think I may have find the right level of sweetness for me (auslese). The Christoffel Eiswein was fantastic. The Knoll, alas, not nearly the same as the 1994 from a few weeks ago.
2003 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Honey, sweet, not a lot of petrol, which all blew off, creamy. Nice. I would have liked this colder.

2003 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Thick, sweet, petrol on the nose, a hint of overripe mango on the palate, that eventually became more prominent, pineapple and creamy vanilla. I liked it, but would not buy it.

Some alcohol, sweet, apples in abundance

2001 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel
Germany, Nahe
I enjoyed this. It was crisper and cleaner, more acid and less viscous than the others, some apples on the palate as well. This matched the food, but I think I'd prefer to drink it on its own in the summer. Nice.

2003 Schloss Schönborn Erbacher Marcobrunn Riesling Spätlese
Germany, Rheingau
This drank older than it was, which isn't a plus for me. It was more than drinkable, but I like mine to be a bit fresher.

1995 Weingut Knoll Riesling Auslese Ried Schütt
Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
This was a masculine, strong riesling. After the fruitier rieslings, this definitely made you sit up and take notice. More complex than the others. I preferred the 1994 more, from the tasting earlier in the month.

1990 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile Vendanges Tardives
France, Alsace
No. Dry and unenjoyable. Complex, but not enjoyable enough to want to ponder.

2002 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Eiswein
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Outstanding. My WOTN. It wasn't as sweet as dessert wines go, which made me like it more. I could have had an entire glass of this and been very, very happy.

Golden color, whiskey colored. Strong. Not for me.
