Flight 1 - Whites (2 Notes)

  • 1996 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Viña Gravonia 88 Points

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

Tasted blind – Medium gold, clear. Notes of stinky cheese, oxidized apples and burnt lemon. Tart flavour profile with crisp acidity and medium boy and finish. Interesting and enjoyable. Drinking well now. Very good.

  • 2006 Herdade do Esporão Esporão Reserva Branco 84 Points

    Portugal, Alentejano, Alentejo, Reguengos

Tasted blind – Pale to medium lemon, clear. Nose of butter and beer with the palate giving toasty and yeasty flavours with more butter. After some time the beer notes diminished on the nose this became more about butter and yeast. Medium body, medium to high acidity and a medium length finish. Again, quite interesting but not as enjoyable as the ‘96 Lopez before it. Drink now. Average.
