My expectations were not particularly high after the cork has moved directly into the bottle without force. What subsequently emerged positively surprised everyone. Prunes and plums, bananas and tobacco dominate the nose. On the palate, especially the dried fruits are confirmed. The tannins are soft, fine and well integrated into the wine. The finish is long to very long. Really amazing how well an ordinary Pesquera Crianza, which I bought cheaply through an auction, holds up for almost 30 years.

Amazing old bottle, in perfect condition. Youthful and vigorous, with a smoky tinge, the classic grilled meat aspect, soft tannins, and plenty of lively acidity. Full of flavor, even maybe a little stout on the palate. Not an incredibly refined wine, but it is powerful and outgoing, and has withstood the test of time admirably. It is time to drink up, as it's certainly not going to get better at this point.

Medium-pale red with browning toward the edges, much older looking than the '98 also present though only four years age difference, and though it's owner was very happy with it I found it kind of lopsided, lacking the fruit needed to hold up the acidity.

Has that funky, barny, old barrel thing Pesquera usually seems to have. Wet tobacco, sweet/tart acidity, plus some nice fresh berry fruit but it's marred by some acrid oaky dill aromas and a drying finish.

Nicely lively and balanced, quite fresh and drinking well, light eloquent red berries, pales in the unfair comparison to the Reserva and Janus of the same vintage in the in the same flight, would have come across much better consumed standalone.

(Bodegas Alejandro Fernández Ribera del Duero Tinto Pesquera) Bricking dark red violet color; mature, dill, tart black fruit nose; tasty, quite mature, tart black fruit, tart currant, tart berry palate; medium-plus finish (time to drink up)
