A small group of us met to celebrate our friend Alan's birthday at Boka restaurant in Chicago, IL. The theme was wines from Vosne Romanee, all of which were paired with Giuseppe Tentori's always fantastic food
Fresh citrus on the nose with a lot of mineral and a bit of wood spice. Tart citrus (mostly lemon) on the palate with a huge mineral backbone. A bit of spice on the backend. Great acidity. Showing much younger than it is.

Waxy, lemon custard nose with some fresh fennel notes. Vibrant, lush citrus and tropical fruit palate. A touch of grilled pineapple on both the nose and palate as well. Good minerality with a long finish.

Ripe, dark red raspberry with some bacon and sweet baking spice on the nose. Fantastic texture and sweet fruit on the palate with a lot of spice on the backend. Extremely long finish. The wine kept getting more and more expressive over the course of three hours.

Dark "chewy' fruit nose with a good bit of damp earth and wet leaves. Some powerful spice as well. Ripe, forward fruit on the palate with nice texture. Very good length and showing nicely as first; it started fading a bit after an hour or so.

Darker red berry and plum, with some leather and a good bit of spice. Medium bodied with good length and texture. Nice spice throughout.

Beautiful dried red fruit with a brown sugar/burnt orange character. A slight minty note as well. Also a bit of tomato leaf. Nice palate; no hard edges. Decent fruit on the palate with some good length. A pleasure to drink.

Beautiful dark red berry nose with leather, smoke, and a lot of sweet spice. A good bit of mineral as well. Great texture on the palate though not as fruit forward as I was expecting. Started somewhat lean and mineral driven at first; the fruit and spice really started coming out about an hour later. Great grip with a fantastic mineral backbone and great acidity. Wonderful

Darker red berry fruits than the '90. Some wet earth, lots of sweet dark spice and a touch of chocolate and tobacco. Very ripe fruit on the palate with a lot of density and spice throughout. Great length here. Wonderful.

Very fragrant red berry and violet nose and palate. Some soy/hoisin and asian spice notes as well. Fantastic on the palate with very fine tannin. Long finish. Absolutely beautiful.

Much bigger nose than the Leroy served alongside. Dark red berries, bacon, rich soy sauce, sweet baking spice. Ripe palate, great texture and length. A very big wine. Absolutely fantastic.

Tons of perfume on the nose. Dark red fruit and floral notes with a little bit of bacon and fantastic baking spice notes. Great body on the palate with delicate, yet powerful, fruit and a mineral backbone. Very long finish. Absolutely delicious.

Beautiful red berry, floral, spice, and soy notes on the nose. Silky palate with just a bit of tannin remaining on the backend. Gorgeous spice throughout and beautiful minerality.

Huge nose. Loads of dark raspberry, smoke, bacon, sweet baking spice with a heavy dose of sulphur in the beginning. Wet earth/leaves also. Big, sappy palate that the fruit and spice carries through on. An interesting wine though a bit out of place in this flight.

Deep amber color with a nose dominated by burnt/bitter orange peel and yellow flowers. The palate is also dominated by orange type flavors. Lots of body and really coats the palate. Nice spice as well. Very long finish.

Light golden color with a mainly lemon peel nose with some wet stone and floral as well. A beautiful palate with great acidity, minerality, and length, but very dry in style for a SGN. I didn't view it as a dessert wine, but loved it nevertheless.

Toasty citrus nose with some baked apple as well. Great texture with fantastic minerality and acidity. Clearly needs time to turn into something fantastic, but still showing great and a pleasure to drink.
