Status: offline 		Ok, so difficult to get absolutes here, but just interested to get an idea on where the wines in people's cellars actually comes from. A "home wine" for an American would be US, and "away wine" probably European/South America/SA/Aus/NZ/etc.

For UK/European folk take Europe as "home"

So are you mainly carrying the local stuff, foreign muck, or a decent balance between the two? Not necessarily which you enjoy the most, just which you tend to hoard most of.

Status: offline 		I'm extraordinarily "home" - 95% of my bottles are from France, Italy or Germany. I should probably make more of an effort in the New World - there are undoubtedly plenty of wines I'd very much like to have in my cellar.

Status: offline 		~58% home, which seems about right to me; I like supporting "local" winemakers with the bulk of my wine budget (although it seems funny to call the entire US "local"), and then branching out with a variety of "away" wines to keep some diversity in our collection.

At the moment, France is #2 with ~20%, and then I have lesser amounts from Germany, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, and Argentina...

Status: offline 		I calculated my "wines away" in my cellar and it came out to 83.02%, not shocked at all. France=49.06%, Spain=24.53%, USA=16.98%, Portugal=5.66%, Argentina=3.77%. These figure are excluding my daily drinkers which I do not track in CT because I would have to constantly remove them from inventory.

15% Away, with 70% of "Away" being Italian

At one time, it would have been skewed in the other direction, with probably 85% being Italian, but then I met my wife, who isn't a particular fan. To be able to continue my obsession, I had to start buying more of what we would both enjoy.

We've only recently started scratching the surface on French wines, and I can see that being a "growth area" in my still modest collection.

Status: offline 		90% USA, with 78% Washington. If you add the Canadian BC wine to my WA and OR, the PacNW is about 85%. Some of my US is CA, VA, TN, TX, NJ.

Definite homer and I mostly like it that way. I will say most of my few "away" wines have been recent and welcome additions and I will definitely be looking to expand my wine horizon's geographically while at the same time being very happy with what I can aquire at "home".

I guess I'm fine with that, but I think I'd prefer more "away."  I voted "good balance and happy," but would have chosen "mostly away and want more away," if that were an option.

Home (USA) 134 bottles
Away 135 bottles.

This is after deducting the Bierzo I've just opened - quite tasty if a little rough around the edges.  Without question, now that Khamen has made me aware of this, my Super Bowl wine will come from the Away team to even the cellar count at 134 each!

Of the Away bottles, I've got 44% France, 33% Spain, 14% Italy, 5% Aussie/NZ, and 4% Argentina. 

Feeling good about my regional mix, but not my varietal mix.  I have an absolute dearth of Pinot Noir (both Burg & New World) which is a major hole in the cellar when guests come over and ask for it.  It's not that I don't like it; it's just that I'm a bargain shopper - and so far I've found so little QPR in the Pinot Noir world!  (But I'm very open to recommendations...)

53% Spanish
17% Mexico (Baja California)
7% France
6% Argentina
6% Chile

and lots of others....

Problem down here in Mexico that you only find Spanish and South American wines for fair prices. If not I probably would have more French, Italian and German wines. But am very happy with my Spanish, Mexican and South American collection. On my buying list at the moment are mostly Mexican and Chile.

I find USA wines ridiculously overpriced, even in the USA; I can get usually 2 quality Bordeaux for the price of 1 California Cab, and the Bordeaux is usually better suited to my tastes...

Status: offline 		I think it depends where you buy US wines in the UK. You can pick up Ridge Zins or Au Bon Climat for about £25 from the Wine Soc but most people's contact with US wines is the £5 Blossom Hill or E&J Turning Leaf. I there is a lack of a mid market for US wines in the UK.

Status: offline 		Only the three west coast states represented. Shouild be getting more Virginia and New York wines. Very happy with my mix, especially the increasing percentage of Italians. Probably overloaded with Chianti and Super Tuscans but I do really like them and don't see myself getting away from them in the future.
