For those that have been before on this weekend, do any of the other wineries do anything out of the ordinary on this weekend? Also, is it less crowded at Cayuse on Friday than Satrurday? We haven't been to Walla Walla in seven years and I see a lot more wineries have downtown locations. In addition to picking up the Cayuse allocation we plan on tasting at Rasa, K, and Buty. Any other favorites?

Thanks

from my somewhat limited experience, it is less crowded on friday.

they are starting to call cayuse weekend, spring release 1 and the may weekend spring release 2

all the cool places will be open, with the exception of Corliss and Tranche.

Maison Bleue and Gramercy would be great places to hit.

If you're downtown, I wouldn't miss Rotie Cellars. Awesome Rhônes. We also really enjoyed Waters' entire lineup, but they're on the way to Milton-Freewater, OR. Not that far, but still...

Friday is always less crowded but even Sat, at it's busiest, isn't too bad. Never have to wait too long for a pour or snacks. Most of the wineries are open with winemakers in attendance. Reynvaan (killer food spread), Gramercy, and Sleight of Hand are always crowded.

Reynvaan will be open if you are on the buying list (not sure about waiting list), but I don't believe they are open to the general public or sell bottles to the general public. They went the Cayuse futures route starting the 2011 vintage, so no need to be open year round. I've yet to attend their open house over Cayuse weekend, but I attended the one for fall release that was limited to list members and the 2012s were definitely stellar.

Many good recs already - I'd second Figgins, Maison Bleue, Gramercy and Rotie. Others worth trying are Kerloo (next door to Maison Bleue), aMaurice and Rasa.

I think Proper did a tasting at Walla Walla Wine Woman during Fall release last year. If they do the same this spring, that would be a must visit.

Last year we walked into Reynvaan during the Cayuse weekend. It seemed to be open to the general public. But if my memory serves me right there was nothing to buy as they were all sold out -- but they did have wines to taste.

So i emailed Reynvaan, and they said they are open for ACTIVE list members only.. even if u're on the waitlist it's not open to ya.

Is the experience that you show up anyways? or how are people getting into this one?

Thanks!

MYE, that's disappointing to hear. But in keeping with the direction Reynvaan is moving, I suppose. Drastic price increases, move to mailing list only, and now restrictions on access even during the two weekends they're open each year.

I have posted numerous times that they do not really need me anymore. Good luck to them. I'll buy Rasa instead.

Hmmmm. We walked into Reynvaan last year. But it sounds like that was either a fluke, or they have changed their policy. I think I am on their wait list, but definitely not on their list list.....

I noticed the second vintage of the cab went up $10 a bottle and I don't think the first vintage has even been released yet. It was just a couple years ago their bottles were $45, now they are $65 (Rocks, Unnamed, Foothills) -$85 (Stonessence, Contender).

Stupid question here, but what are the dates of the Cayuse weekend?

We're thinking about going down April 12 for the Rotiesian Crawfish Boil, and know things get filled up hotel and restaurant wise on Cayuse weekend, so I'm hoping it is not then.

We are going to be there as well. I would recommend Saffron, though not sure if you can get in now or not. Another place that looks good, and that we will be trying for the first time, is Brasserie 4. Whitehorse Crawford is also quite good. But I would be interested in hearing what others might recommend........ And skifree we will be at Saffron Friday night and Brasserie 4 Saturday night.

Ah, we have reservations at Brasserie 4 Saturday night as well, but not until 9:30 :(
Andrae's kitchen for Friday ;)

I'm not a big lamb fan, but Saffron has a great lamb chop. Of course everything is great at Brasserie. Just hope they have food left at 9:30 PM!

Oh and thanks for the pointer to Andraes. Will definitely look for it -- looks great! We in fact had a really good Mexican meal from a food truck a few years ago that was on the road out to Milton Freewater. I think the people at Trust had recommended it. I have no idea if they are still there though!

We hit up Andrae's kitchen last time we were there.. and it was just ok i thought.. i mean it's filling, it's not expensive.. but it's kinda like diner food.. a bit greasy.. maybe it was just me. haha

Saffron is awesome. been twice.. but this time they were fully booked :(

We got brasserie 4 reserved on Sat at 5:30.. dang that's early but i guess that's the problem with a popular weekend. it was 5:30 or 9.. saffron was 9.. with a new born, eating at 9 is suicidal so hahha

Slye, if you get in at 7, and you hear a baby wailing, just come say hi! ;)

I am on the Reynvaan list but they don't ship to my state. We had a great tasting with Matt in October but that is probably the last time we will buy. Plus, it is getting a bit expensive considering other wines out there that are just as good. Someone could always assume my identity and get in if they wanted.
