I may be purchasing a home in the next month or two that has a basement potentially worthy of being a passive cellat or at the least have reasonable enough climate control to keep my daily drinkers down there. I would like to find a small nonobtrusive temperature logger to put down there at a good price. Does not need any bells or whistles but I want it to be able to log temp for 60 days without requiring being plugged into an outlet or being touched by anyone during that time. Hoping to find someone here who may have git ten something like this in the past for a recommendation... anyone?

Havnt pulled the trigger yet

There are some good recommendations in this tread https://www.wineberserkers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=122652&hilit=Cellar+temperature+humidity+wireless&start=0

I use the Wireless Tag system. You buy the module and as many tags as you need. It is easy to set up and reliable. I like that they also do motion so I know when the door is opened. I also have one on my garage door.

Do these text you or anything if the temperature spikes? I would find that sort of thing useful. Just seeing a log is less of a goal for me, but if I'm living out at the lake and my A/C decides not to run, that would be an issue I would want to drive into town (where my real cellar is located) to fix.

I use the Sensor Push (http://www.sensorpush.com/) and like it a lot. Only problem, relative to the OP's wishes, is that its specs say that it stores data "for over two weeks," not 60 days. It tracks temperature and humidity very well, at one minute intervals, and automatically sends the data to your phone whenever you are nearby (200 feet or so). As long as you are somewhere near the device once every couple of weeks, it requires zero interaction or maintenance.

There is an optional wifi gateway (which I do not have) that will attach the device to wifi, and the Internet. It can then alert you anywhere, anytime, if temp or humidity falls outside a range you set. That eliminates the two-week storage window.

You can set it up so it notifies you when the door is open or when temperatur or humors are out of range. Notifications can be a pop up on your phone/tablet, email or text.

The wireless tag requires a gateway to work, I think it was $40 and the tags are about $15 each. I can access at least a years worth of records (I installed it right at a year ago).

The bad thing about most of the units that have a gateway is that if the company goes under, the unit will no longer work since it uses their server to relay the data. There may be a way around it, but I have heard that as the biggest complaint. If the Sensor Push does not require a gateway then that would be good, but you would only know the status of you are at home. At that point you can just wonder down to the cellar and check it manually so why bother.

I've used this as a base unit on the 1st floor.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004I08CEO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

with a remote unit in the cellar and one outside.

https://www.amazon.com/Meade-Instruments-TS33C-M-Temperature-Humidity/dp/B004K6LOR8/ref=pd_bxgy_201_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B004K6LOR8&pd_rd_r=YKZNB45S70W82YFSM13V&pd_rd_w=uHD35&pd_rd_wg=Tn9fC&psc=1&refRID=YKZNB45S70W82YFSM13V

not super fancy, but its lasted almost 8 years so far.

I had a passive cellar in my house for about 8 years. I used this:

https://www.mccdaq.com/templates/product_family.aspx?oid=1623

It logs temperature and relative humidity. You set the intervals. The battery lasts a long time. I had it checking my cellar four times a day and I think it went for a year or more. The only catch is that it will not tell you anything until you plug it into the computer. Then you get a nice graph and you can export the data to Excel or another spreadsheet.

It worked great for me.

As for the passive cellar, that also worked great. The temperature went from low 50s in the winter to the low 70s in the summer. None of the bottles I've tried have spoiled. I converted to an actively cooled cellar this summer only because the humidity levels were too high in the summer. I was getting mildew on the walls and mold on the corks.

I am not sure how cheap they are, but I've used TinyTag temperature/humidity loggers in the past, and they're reliable. I used ones designed for outdoor use (in a vineyard) but they make ones for use indoors too.
