Hello all,

I am afraid that I have to cancel my trip to join you all - my partner in (this) crime has had some unfortunate things come up in his life that has forced him to pull out, and I have some things going on with my family that require my attention as well.

I am very sorry that I have to write this - was really looking forward to meeting you all over some great wine and meals.

Hi Folks,

So - as it turns out - Gary and I will be in Charleston this epic weekend visiting our son (Navy - in Nuke school at Goose Creek) and would love to join in the festivities on Friday if there is space available.

So.....is there room on Friday for 2 more? If so, what's needed?

1 month bump--last chance for folks to jump on board (at least for the Circa dinner). I need to give them a headcount.
A also need final declarations, in case anything has changed.

All other plans are locked and loaded.

Thanks bro
Weather is beautiful in South FL--played golf twice today and now getting ready to take Kyser out for Caribbean food.

Getting back to SC might be a bit of a chore though.

Blind Sunday is shaping up to be quite the all-star lineup.
All reds (mine too) so I’ll probably throw in a bonus white.
I’m on my phone; when I get to a computer I’ll bump with some ideas for the format. Right now the plan is to begin right after lunch on Sunday.

Swimsuits, flip flops, cabana wear, light-colored clothing…
Current sea temp is 83 degrees. We haven’t yet had a taste of autumn.
The current forecast is for upper 80s during the day and low 70s at night, with a decent chance of scattered afternoon thunderstorms—in other words…SUMMER!

Let's divide the cost of Friday's food evenly so bring $ or checkbooks.

Explanation of Circa price—they’ll wait to charge corkage until the event in case people start going crazy…
;)
Let's just divide that cost evenly.
quote:

(from Ginny) The cost per person will be $90++ so the total per person will be $117.90. There is also a $25 corkage fee per 750ml bottle and $50 corkage fee per magnum. Please let guests know that those charges will be applied the night of dinner.

Based on previous experience with the private room service at Circa (fantastic), you’re gonna want some extra gratuity cash on hand. Also note that they have charged us gratuity BEOFRE the corkage fee (for those who are accustomed to tipping on the total bill). Many of us probably tend to tip higher than the 18% they are charging us.

Sunday Blind tasting format. (1 bottle per couple, not two)
1. Wines will be served in identical decanters.
2. Each person gets a stack of cards, each card with tasting notes for each of the wines.
3. Match the card with the wine.
4. Then try to identify region/variety/age…
5. Then I will reveal the names of the wines, but not the order.
6. Do your answers change?
The wines actually should be pretty straight forward.

Sunday afternoon--bread and water for you deadbeats!

Session I, THU--6:00 p.m. at Mason's place
Session II, FRI--4:30 p.m. at our condo clubhouse
Session III, FRI--whenever the shrimp and Champagne are gone...
Session IV, Sat--7:00 p.m. at Circa 1886 "Tack Room"
Session V, SUN--1:30 p.m. ?
(Our condo clubhouse may be double booked. If so we will get a room at the country club [I'll let you know]).

Now, back to my cooking...

Let's do 5:00 instead of 4:30 Friday. HRH and I are teaching and could use a few extra minutes of prep.
Kyser is very excited.

Gonna be hot.
REALLY hot, with a decent chance of some rain (glad I didn't schedule outdoor tastings this time).

Thursday's menu is locked--mucho prep already done. 12 course tasting menu.

I'm glad you're all flying--major flooding from Florence from Georgetown through NC. Downtown Georgetown expects 10 feet of floodwater in the next day or so. We are fine here; the tide goes out and takes the Florence water along.

Mason couldn't get a babysitter for Saturday night so his wife is staying home and a local wino buddy is Mason's "date." Even though we have enough wine, he is insisting on bringing Krug...

I'll order BBQ for Friday tomorrow.

@nycablover--Kyser insists that we bring home one of the empty Rayas bottles on Saturday night. He's never had one.

I think it is a good advice for life that you never turn down Krug. Esp those of us who prefer for our chard to have bubbles.

I suspect this will be more of a screagle reaction and less of a maybach one. We had that '08 end of last year and it was killer.

EEK! Well... we are driving - this is a two week trip that will result in one of our cars residing in Florida. Any specific details on what to avoid? Since I95 is now open again - well take that to I26E - mostly. Taking our time on the trek from NY to SC.

We're only joining the group for Friday - looking forward to some good BBQ and excellent wines. It's tough to impress M....Perhaps impress/surprise will be better (no grange vertical - done that already! :) )

PM me details on address please. Time is now 5 PM?

Looking forward to meeting new CT folks and catching up with the usual suspects.

Grabbed the wine out of my cellar to pack for the flight.
Afraid that I would run out of the house for my flight tomorrow morning and then remember it was still resting in my cellar. (You guys would still let me come if I forgot all my wine right?? )

Looks to be a great event - looking forward to meeting everyone and trying some great wines and food.

Thanks for organizing this Scott
Safe travels all.

S1 - Rayas bottles are fair game:-) I hope it passes Kyser's sniff test!

Getting excited for the weekend - got all the bottles ready to pop in the wine suitcase. Looking forward to meeting new CT friends and reconnecting with those we have met before.

Safe travels everyone!!

Please dress appropriately for dinner tonight
(shorts and flip flops...)
90 degrees, humid, 40% chance of an afternoon boomer

I'll try to remember to turn on the ringer on my phone. Please don't call or text until after school though (3:30)

Help me remember to take pics of tonight’s food and wines.
I’ll try to remember to take some notes but will likely be distracted.
Today’s heat index is 101.
I planned some cold courses so we don’t all melt.
