I am now 2+ months in. My last purchase was March 13th. I am trying very hard to drink down my current inventory.

And now I have probably jinxed myself by making my "success" (for me, anyway) public...

My wife and I are flying to San Francisco tomorrow with some good friends for a week of sightseeing and probably a few winery visits.

Can't believe I'm say this, but after 3 or 4 months, it gets easier. I've actually been tempted, and was able to pass just because of my "clean time". It'll be 6 months for me in two weeks. It can't last forever, but at least it's nice to see my cellar count actually starting to make a meaningful dip.

I bought 6 cases of wine on 4/18 and nothing since. Starting to feel more comfortable in here.

I’m back in here after 2 1/2 cases this week. Hoping for three months at least. My wife wants much longer.

I'm going to try for a full year, now that the Goodfellow spring release is out of the way. (I wanted that 2021 chardonnay lineup badly and wasn't going to pass it up.) But we've finally found our new house after several years of vacillating between remodeling and purchasing new, and then a year wasted waiting on a building permit that ultimately never came through. We close in early June and I'm targeting cellar completion by next April. All my wine budget is going into building that. Even though the cellar will be purely utilitarian storage, it's still an expensive little project.

I'm considering filtering off all the wine offer emails into some folder that I never open. Anybody ever try that? It's too easy to otherwise get sucked into a "can't refuse" offer, especially after a glass or 5.

I'm six weeks into a lull of no purchases, firmly in the grips of the Moratorium. My travels will put me out of town for most of the next three weeks, so I might get over the two month mark.

I don't know how I feel about that.

Current purchases thus far this year are a paltry 42 bottles, and I won't see any new mailers until later this summer. Hoping I can drink down my inventory.

Yep. Notices that I don't want to miss (e.g., mailing list allocations) go to my inbox, and everything else I have rules to go to a "wine" folder.

I just checked, and I'm just over the 2-month mark since my last purchase (which was an allocation, so, you know, kind of doesn't count in the "more-or-less-atorium"). I'm not "officially" in a moratorium, but I haven't been buying, just the same.

Back from my travels. I did buy a bottle of chartreuse in Paris for a friend, but nothing for me.

In fact, I just turned down a few bottles offered today.

I feel empowered!

I bought six bottles of grower Champagne that isn't exported in Reims a couple weeks ago, but overall I'm not buying.

I'm doing pretty well with this too! Not zero, but my purchases are way down.

Next I need to tackle diet!

Closing in on two months without a purchase, and only getting stronger. I might not have to go an entire year though as originally expected, as I think we'll complete the cellar build by the end of December, or perhaps end of January at the latest.

The diet Moratorium is nothing I want to be associated with

I'm typing this as I am slurping down another egg roll.....

But I’m guessing that as much as you run, diet isn’t really necessary…

Congratulations! Both on sticking to your moratorium, and the early cellar build completion! Cheers!

It has been three weeks since my last purchase.

Secondary AC unit went out this week. It is a small unit for the second floor of our house. Replacement cost of $6700!!!

That is $1500 more than what I paid for the big unit on the main floor to be replaced in 2019!

Here I am settling in for the long winter of no wine purchases, or at least that's what I am telling myself at the moment.

Last September my AC went out completely. Cost - a mere $16,500. Of course, because of changing buidling codes that included replacing all the duct work. Oh well, what kind of wine would that have bought?

Checked in: 6/15
Checked out: 7/20 (unless my following conjecture can extend my stay)

As my history of posts in the “What Have You Bought This week” thread will substantiate, I don’t have any points from the Moratorium Rewards Program in my account, so this current run of 35 days is, to me at least, somewhat of an accomplishment. Now I did use the Spousal Exception in one instance - a purchase of 2 bottles of Champagne, but I’m even thinking of appealing to the FUGU Moratorium Council on my latest purchase: 2 bottles of SA Chenin Blanc, based on extending the Spousal Exception to wines from countries that your spouse is an ex-pat of.
Grasping at straws.
Either I’m in or I’m out.
But I want some credit.

I'll give a tip of the hat to a creative argument... but will deny the appeal and concur with wiml on the 35 day moratorium. Which, to be fair, is a pretty big accomplishment for you, fingers!

For $16,500 I could've bought a bottle or two of ready to drink DRC!

Does the clock re-start after:

1. The day you commit to buying wine

2. The day you pay for the wine

3. The day you pick up the wine

The difference can be as much as one to two weeks. I'm not referring to club purchases, mail order or buying futures.

The way I've always interpreted it is the moment you buy you're back to 0 and counting up again.

What a bunch of slackers. This thread was almost on page 3!

I am checking myself in, hoping fall allocations are complete, I am on Day 1.

My goal is to make it to Thursday. One day at a time.

Every journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Congratulations, Chris!

One more allocation coming in October, then I'm trying to be done for the year.

Day 6 here, despite being sorely tempted by some offers, and I passed on a few allocations.

Just checked my wine calendar. Jasud release is early October. I should then be able to check myself in here till the big Xmas Day sale that I have a 0% chance of resisting. 2 months and some change, just requires a little planning. Lets see if I can pull it off now...
