Really crapped out at the HDH auction. Bids were really high on older bottles and even new vintage champagnes. Although cases of 2015-2020 burgundy and bordeaux were going for slightly better prices.... but its basically a 20-30% discount, so that a case of Burgs were at 300/btl vs 400/btl....so yeah.

I did grab a case of 2015 VC La Grande Dame at a very solid price.

We went down to Los Olivos last weekend on an afternoon date to pick up some Tercero which was waiting for us, and we ended up picking up a few additional bottles while in the neighborhood:

NV Tercero curiosity 1 (multi-vintage blend currently only available in the tasting room; I bought it without getting to taste it, because...I was curious)
2022 Black Sheep Finds Grenache Holus Bolus Lyons Vineyard x2
2021 Black Sheep Finds Syrah Holus Bolus "Franc de Pied"
2022 Black Sheep Finds Gamay Noir The Joy Fantastic

Tercero wines were very good, as always, although the energy level of our pourer (not Larry) was running significantly higher than we were geared for. We really enjoyed our stop at Holus Bolus/The Joy Fantastic - flavorful wines with fresh acidity and lovely balance, and we had a very enjoyable tasting experience with a knowledgeable pourer (Matt). It was a good first experience, and we'll return.

Found some pebbles laying around the vineyard and assembled them into a new wall for the patio. Still some finishing touches, but the major lifting is complete. We were amazed at how quickly this came together with a few guys that knew what they were doing. The work started last Monday and we had a family gathering yesterday. It was too windy and cold to eat outside however, but we got to look at it. Barbilocks does not know it yet, but this will convert to a nice crush pad, come fall :) Goat Rocks Syrah block directly in view to the North.

Did anyone sign up for 001 Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon? New Graeme MacDonald project. I did. My moratorium visit didn't last very long

I signed up for the 001 Vintners, but given how much Napa Cab I drink (not much) and the price point, I opted to pass.

I did purchase my entire Ultramarine allocation (didn't think I was going to, but it was smaller than anticipated), and picked up a bottle of Vin de Constance at a great price at one of my local shops. The damage could have been much worse!

2019 Ultramarine Sparkling Rosé Hirsch Vineyards
2019 Ultramarine Blanc de Blancs Heintz Vineyard Sonoma Coast
2016 Klein Constantia Vin de Constance

Thought I was not ordering any more wines since we already have hot weather around here, but there is this cold front that will be arriving early next week to deep south Texas so I took that last opportunity to buy some more wine. Will be shipped 2nd day air because I cant gamble on ground right now.

Threw in the minimum bid on a bottle of 2001 Lokoya Diamond Mountain. Imagine my surprise when I got the "You're a WINNER!" email from Wine Bid! It seems the price of their '01 and '02 is coming down on the auction sites, so maybe I'll pick up a couple bottles here & there. If you ever wanted to see how different some consecutive vintages can be, the '01, '02, and '03 Diamond Mountain make a great vertical to showcase the change from year to year.

Same. I had a meeting this morning so was a little late logging in. But perfectly happy with this.

I recently tried the moldovan wine Feteasca Alba 2014, and it was quite an enjoyable experience. Overall, it was a delightful addition to a picnic.

I am a BIG fan of matcha tea and drink it 2 or 3 times a day. I indulged myself and ordered a couple of 30 gram cans directly from Japan as it was the champion tea in the latest competition. At $3,500 per kilo this is like the Harlan or Screeming Eagle of green tea. Have no idea if its worth the price, but I do notice a lot of difference between the $25 can and the $50 can, so I must be for a treat. For some very weird reason I am not affected by its caffeine content but with coffee I can go literally crazy because of caffeine. For all of you that have tasted matcha from Starbucks dontjudge the drink with that reference, culinary matcha is a whole different thing than ceremonial matcha ( instant coffee vs gourmet coffee)

Curious what you think when you try it. I love my coffee and will often order small lot high end coffee from the retailers who sell green unroasted beans. Most I've spent was around $40 per lbs. Typically Blue Mountain Jamaica coffee is around $30 per lbs and often the better Hawaiian coffee is similar. My latest exotic purchase was a refill of my Australian beans....due to shipping this costs almost as much as the beans from Jamaica.

Bought about 6 cases of wine off the Last Bottle Marathon for my son’s wedding in October … ~3 cases of Conn Creek AVA Series CS’s, some Malbecs, Sauv Blancs, and a handful of PN’s. Also picked up a Daou Soul of a Lion for me as I’m curious to try one of their higher end wines as their regular lineup hasn’t interested me yet!

A zero gravity recliner chair. My mother used to have one and I remembered as being the best thing since hot cakes. Then mother passed away and I forgot about the existance of those recliners until today that I went to the office of a friend and he had one. I asked to use it and I guarantee that if I close my eyes in less than 1 minute I would have fallen to sleep. So I saw where he ordered it and I placed and order for one that has heat and massage.

For the last 10 days or so Ive been sleeping outside my house in the patio in a hamock, yes, all night long sleeping in a hamock with a special net that protects me from mosquitoes. Since there is no preasure points in the hamock and that it "hugs" me ( so to speak) I do not move an inch all night long and in the morning I swear I wake up without any stiffness on my back or any pain whatsoever. The only downside is that our beloved 60f at night will be a thing in the past VERY soon and I would return to sleep in the bed. Now, this hamock that I use is not you average beach hamock, it is way bigger and way more comfortable as it is made of cotton. I swear that I want to see how I can install a hamock inside my room and sleep there instead of my bed.

I also have a potted olive tree, mango tree, orange tree, coffee shrub and an avocado tree. The trick is properly fertilizing them so they will flower and bear fruit....i have had some luck. Anything is easier to grow than a lemon tree!
